I got my AP scores today and received a mere 3 in Psychology. :(

Unfortunately, I didn’t really have a teacher the entire year. Our instructor did absolutely nothing in class, I had to self-teach myself everything, and to be honest, I think it’s a miracle that I got a 3 given the amount of initiative I had to put in completely on my own. All my friends got 1s and 2s, I checked with them.

I know a 3 is sub-par for Ivies/other top schools… so can I just not send the score? The problem is, I got an A in the class as shown on my transcript, so if I don’t report the score, they may get suspicious…

Help?

I don’t think a 3 looks too bad; it looks much better than a 1 or 2. Just do better on future AP exams and they should blot out your 3. Unless you’re a rising senior, in which case your future scores won’t be seen by colleges until after you’re accepted/denied.

I’m actually a rising junior who thinks ahead far too much. lol

But I’m glad it won’t be too bad. I’m taking 4 AP’s next year, already studying for the exams, I’m aiming for four 5’s.

Also, should I report the 3 to colleges when I apply, or leave it out?

I studied Barron’s the morning of the test and got a five. Just retake it, you have time and READ BARRONS. I am a rising sophomore though.

Don’t retake it. It’s a waste of time. And a 3 is probably not going to have any effect on your apps anyway.

Lol, with four APs on my plate for next year, studying and retaking isn’t an option at this point. I need a 5 on AP English Comp, AP Biology, AP US History, and AP Stat. So I’m already up to my head with studying.

That’s what I was hoping, that it wouldn’t be good or bad, just neutral.

But once again… should I report the score on the CommonApp when I apply? Because I got an A in the class, so it’ll look fishy if I don’t report a score… right?

Hey, you passed! You should definitely report it. If you decide not to, I’m pretty sure colleges won’t go looking for your score. It’s your choice to report it or not. But I think that you should! Check out the websites of your top school choices and see which scores they accept. Most schools will at least give you credits for it, and some will count it in place of a class on campus. A passing AP score is worth reporting, or at least worth looking into what you can get out of it.

Don’t worry, I bet I got a 1. Curse me for procrastinating until the last minute! >.<
I think you should report it. If you don’t report it, colleges will probably think you failed while getting an A in the class. So you might as well show that you passed.

Don’t dwell on your score. In fact, you are a rising junior.

Thanks guys.

I guess I’m gonna report it… as someone said, if not, they may think I failed the test. And a 3 isn’t all that bad, is it? My understanding was that a 1 or 2 would hurt, a 3 wouldn’t matter, and a 4 or 5 would help. Correct me if I’m wrong…? :P

Look at it this way, most colleges will take a 3 or above and give you credit. Its not like how you need at least a 4 in APUSH to get credit.
