Do colleges care more about you taking AP courses at school, or if you just take the AP tests? Also, is there anyway to tell the colleges that you are going to take some AP tests at the end of your senior year(because you aren't taking the corresponding AP course in school)?
For example:

Person A takes 5 APs in school, and get 3/4s on them
Person B doesn't take any APs in school, but takes the same 5 AP tests and get all 5s.
Who is better off?

yea, I want to know about that too because at my school there are only a few AP classes offered, but you are free to take as many AP tests as you can handle.

they want to see you take the most rigorous cirriculum offered at your school...just taking honors physics when AP is offered an then taking the AP physics test wont cut it. They care less about what you actually score. You arent even required to put that on your application...though there is a space for it

Person A is better off, if thye go to the same school, because person B is quite obviously capable of handling the material, and it would appear that they'r ejust lazy

question for schmivy:
Well, what if the reason person B did not take the courses was not because he was lazy, but because he knew he already could get fives on all of them (i mean, what is the purpose of taking the course if you already knew you could get 5s?) Assuming that those were the only APs offered at the school, then who would be better off?
