How do you get an AP scholar award??
I'm interested in that, so I could plan how many APs to take this year and next year. (I'm a sophomore)
I'll take AP Chem and psychology (self study)this year,
Next year I'll take AP stats and Ap Bio in school, and self study AP US history, AP Chinese (I'm from Taiwan), AP Calc AB.

That is too much. You need a 3+ on 3 AP exams to get the AP Scholar Award. You can probably go for the National AP Scholars in which you would need 8 to qualify.

for national AP scholars, do u need 8 and 3+ in each?
If I can't finish 8 AP exams before senior year, does that mean the national scholar award is useless for college application? (Since you apply before taking the exam in senior year)
Well, seems like I only have 7 subjects in sophomore and junior year....
Maybe I should add an easy subject like AP environmental science or Econ...
what do u guys suggest?

man, im not sure if i can get 3 on AP reading?but i can get 5 for many other tests, do have still have a chance to get the reward? if not, i decide to not take the AP reading exam

Hey, which is more prestigious, the AP State Scholar award, or the AP National Scholar? The AP State Scholar seems much harder to get since there's only 1 person per state that qualifies.

fwiw: the AP awards are absolutely worthless for college admissions. Admissions officers can see the AP's on your transcript, and your senior year schedule.........just list self-study and good scores in the Other section on your app.

fwiw: the average # of AP's of Stanford acceptees is FIVE.

I'll respond tomorrow, but first, an educational lesson....why don't you theorize why the CollegeBoard marketing machine is just that, a marketing machine....

but, bear in mind that we have 35,000 high schools in the US...assume that xx offer 18+ APs, while the same xx offer <2AP's. AND that AP's were not designed for college admissions.....

everyone seems to forget the original question...
If I don't finish 8 by junior year, National award basically doesn't have any effects on college apps right??

yes, to earn an AP award, you must have completed all the AP tests. The awards are mailed in the fall (usually Sept), after summer test scores are reported. Any award for which you qualify will be after Jr year testing, and you can add that award to your college apps. If you take more AP tests your senior year, you may earn another award, but, hopefully, by then, you'll be already have matriculated into the college of your choice.
