okay so i just found out I'm an AP S w/ H. right? is this worth telling Stanford and if so how do i do that? Should I fax it? email? i'm confused...

Hmmm. I don't know how prestigious it is; also, they probably already know because you told them your AP scores.

So I'll second the question--is it even worth it to put it on college apps if they also ask for your AP test scores?

not worth it

okay...thanks

I put AP Scholar Award (no honors) on my application last year. It certainly didn't hurt.

I may as well tell them-I think i'll just email them. whatever... its not such a big deal, its not like they'll be like, "oh she listed a stupid award on her app, lets not take her" so i'll just do that.

it's better than nothing. if you have other awards, then list those first. If there is a spot open, list the AP scholar award.

I don't know about others, but my school doesn't give out "awards" so I was like "hmm... I look like an idiot" did anyone else find this to be the case?

Yeah, me too.

And a lot of the big national awards I have only recently heard about in my college search. My school is not a place where there are oppurtunities for excelling in many state/national competitions simply because of budget. Also, nobody told me about them, and nbody told me that the idea really even existed. So... yeah. Ditto.

Although I'm not sure how much colleges look at "Most Promising Student Award-Class of '05" or "Physics Student of the Year Award-Hodunk High" anyway.

vaish - my school is exactly the same thing... we dont have an honor roll, any sort of awards.. and we dont even rank. But every year, we have at least 15 HYPSMs.... maybe more.... and then we have a bunch of Columbias and stuff... but yeah.

Yeah, I did find it to be the case that you look like an idiot. Haha, just kidding =) My school doesn't give many awards except Honor Roll and a few departmental awards (which I think are usually given out near graduation to seniors, so it's pointless for college apps).

right, me too. so what did you list for awards, then?

NHS, National French Honors Society, Knowledge Masters. and thats it. I was really bummed thouhg I was commended by the Air Force in 9th grade, but I couldn't put it on b/c of their "since the begining of 10th grade" thing

also my school is in the junior High system. So most of the clubs aren''t available in 9th grade. So that makes it seem like i joined all these clubs late, when i didn't... oh well

Yeah, and in a lot of clubs you're only eligible for leadership positions if you're a senior, so THAT looks like you started "leadership" late...

I pronounce it LAME.

yup, i know how that goes. it sucks...

yeah we don't even have NHS or anything....as for the AP w/ H thing (congrats! welcome to the club), I think they can figure it out from the aps you listed on the app itself

yeah, I forgot to tell them today...whatever. I emailed them but i don't know what that does... whatever shrug

I just received ap scholor with honors for the aps I took in my sophomore year. I hope this means something.

My S’s school was on the jr high system too and all the schools understood that most of the clubs then started in 10th. They don’t take things against that you can’t help. Also my S was an AP scholar with distinction and we definitely placed it on the common app section for awards along with National Honor Society, and Spanish honor society. On the common app the awards go back to 9th grade so you should be able to put the Air Force award there. (Unless the common app is different this year>)
