AP Scholar - Worth It Or Not?

Hello,

I'm a junior who's currently taking 4 AP classes; 2 last year. Thus, I would only have 6 AP classes at the end of this school year... many of my peers have suggested having 8 AP classes by the end of junior year, to receive the "AP Scholar" award to put on the resume.

Do you think it would be worth it to self-study two more APs for the AP Scholar Award? I was thinking Music Theory and Human Geography/Environmental Science.

You need a 3 or higher on three or more exams to get the AP Scholar award, it has nothing to do with how many classes you take. I received the award last year.

AP: Scholar Awards

I think you are referring to

National AP Scholar
Granted to students in the United States who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Personally, I do not think it is worth it. You do not get money for it. You do not get anything for it but a certificate in the mail. Yes, you can receive college credit for it (but it all depends on the college). That is the only reason it is worth self-studying, in my opinion.

Ahh yes, I meant the National AP Scholar award, sorry.

Yeahh - that was kind of my feeling too. Self-studying for an AP sounds like it'd take a lot of time, and I don't want to do it unless this National AP Scholar award is actually reputable.

LoL. I've never of this award before coming on CC.
It's like not even mentioned at our school since rarely anyone takes 8 APs and get that high of grades on all of them..

I think it might be worth it if you don't have a lot of other awards (like myself). I don't think it's that impressive but at least it builds up your resume.

Collision, I think you are just a freak
