AP Scholars

I heard you can get recognized for getting good scores on a certain number of AP tests. could someone clarify exactly what the AP Scholars thing is?

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/scholarawards.html

ok thanks. will the college board commend me right away so i can put in on my college applications (im a junior and ive taken 4 AP exams)

I remember that my award letter came in December of 2006 for the AP tests I'd taken in May of 2006, so it might take a while to process this year's exams.

but would i be able to put it on my college applications becuase i will eventually be a AP scholar?

I would, as long as you're sure the scores will get you AP Scholar status.

ok thanks a lot violetmist

Thanks for posting this.

I'm curious as to how tests are counted...I took 8 AP tests thus far, but two of them are AP Calculus exams. I took Calc AB last year, and I took Calc BC this year. Does this still count as two tests? Also, National AP Scholar seems like it is given to all students who meet the requirements...Am I right, or did I misunderstand the website?

It seems like AP State has greater distinction than National AP. That struck me as weird, lol

Inconnu, I agree with how that's weird, but yep AP Scholar and National are pretty much just ways to count up how many APs you did (and how well you did I guess). They aren't distinctive awards.

Can you be an AP scholar when you've already graduated high school?

No, the National Award is more prestigious because there's a minimum score requirement.

AP State Scholar is based on how many tests you've taken, regardless of the scores you get on them.

^

But if there is a tie of tests taken, the higher scorer will get it.

True, but if you to take ALL the tests and suck at them. you can win AP State, while you need 8 tests of 4 or higher with an average of 4 or greater for National AP -- much more difficult IMO.

good point.

But does anyone know the answer to my previous question...

"Can you be an AP scholar when you've already graduated high school?"

Im assuming, because technically, you did take the tests during your high school year, sooo, you'd just get the award after all the results have been tallied in like October.

Its pretty much just for personal pride. You're already in college.

I do remember seeing a post about parents who get their kids' AP Scholar awards in the mail while they're in college.

sweet thanks!

I won't being getting the national any time soon...last year i had some confidence in the Spanish Language test and ended up with a 1. I should of canceled it while i had the chance. Oh well i hope the 5 on last year's whap tests, this years APUSH, and this years APHG test will bring it up

These awards are just College Board trying to scam you into buying more AP tests.

The College Board is a non-profit organization. They don't care how many tests you take.
