AP science and math tests - engineering major

My son will most like be majoring in chemical engineering. He’s currently a junior and these are his AP classes. In the tests that he has already taken, he has earned a 4 so I’m hoping that he may get credit. I have heard that schools differ on awarding credit depending on the score. The ones that are starred…I’m thinking that he’d have to take these classes for his major so does it make sense not to take the AP tests or take them and get some type of elective credit?

Thank you for your help!

I would look into what credit some schools would offer for Physics I – engineering majors will be taking calc-based, not algebra-based, physics, so the Physics I exam may or may not be worth it for him.

To clarify, an example of how credits work at the university I attend. I took the AP Chem exam in high school and scored well enough to skip two chem classes and two chem labs, if I chose to. I decided to take the classes but skip the labs to free up my schedule. If my major had not related to chemistry, I might have been able to use those chem credits for general education requirements, or they might not have been able to be applied to anything at all.
