AP sciences.

If you took AP Chem, AP Bio, or AP Physics, did you have the prior class? I mean like before you took AP Chem, did you take regular chemistry?

If you went straight to the class, how hard was it without prior knowledge?

I think you are supposed to have taken the regular or honors version of whatever AP science you want to take first (though it's different at every school). From what I know, you really want to take a biology class before taking AP bio

yea, i would imagine that taking ap bio without regular bio would be sort of difficult. in my school, we have to take the regular chem, bio, or physics before moving on to ap.

I'm taking AP Chem, but this year I took Honors Chemistry. I've heard it's just a review except way more in depth.

we just go straight to AP at my school.

at my school you have to take the previous except for AP environmental sci. and except for AP physics C i wanna say

At our school you have to take Bio/Chem/Phys 1 before going on to AP. They don't offer Physics B and AP Calc BC is a co-requisite with Physics C. Bio and Chem are double blocked. The teachers do teach you everything you need to know to get 4/5 on the Exam, so I guess they're doing something right.

I skipped chem and took AP, probably the highest grade i have on my transcript right behind orchestra which is a free 100. Chem is just easy math. You have to know your pluses, minuses, timeses, and divided bys ;)

At my school you go straight to the class, but we don't have AP Chem... We're underfunded... We have 1000 juniors and seniors (combined) but only 8 took AP Physics (myself included) and 15 took AP Biology.

I went straight to AP Bio and my normal chem and physics classes were slacker classes, so it was almost like going straight to AP Chem and AP Physics. It was not hard to get at least a solid B if not an A.

At my school, only AP Bio is offered, and you have to take either regular or Honors Bio first. I just took the test without taking the class, as many people do. We may offer AP Chem and AP Physics B soon. For Chem, you'd definitely have to take regular Chem first, and for Physics, I'm not sure.

In my school, if you're smart, you go straight into the AP.

I never took Chem or Physics but simply went straight into AP Chem and AP Physics B. It might be a little shocking at first but nothing big.

Think about it this way:

You could take physics honors in high school like you couldn't take it, right? Either you do or you dont. EITHER WAY you're going to take it college. So if you don't take it in high school, when you go to college you'll take College Physics (AP Physics). Because you're paying tuition and all, you WILL learn the material and you WILL master it.

Jumping to an AP is the same concept. ;)

Ehhhh from my experience, you really don't need to take an intro bio class to do well in AP Bio. The school doesn't even offer a regular bio class for "smart" students; we just go directly to AP.

at my school we have prerequisites for all the AP sciences.

AP Bio - B or better in normal bio & chem
AP Chem - A in algebra 2 & chem
AP Physics - B or better in normal chem and Alg2/trig, and you have to be taking pre-cal honors or AP calc BC at the same time as AP physics
AP Environmental Sci. - C or better in normal chem, physics, and bio.

I have taken AP Bio and I am taking AP Chem this year.
I think it would be crazy to take AP Chem without ever having chemistry before. The class began with the assumption that general chemistry was known.
As for AP Bio it would be tough because the class entails learning a vast amount of material. Knowing the basics will make it more enjoyable and not to mention easier.

At my school, the only AP science that you're allowed to take without taking the regular version first is physics, and the reason for that is that the work is basically the same, but the level of math is higher.

9th - took honors bio
10th- took AP bio on my own, got a 5, took honors chem as well
11th - took AP Chem, skipped honors physics for AP Physics C, got 5s all around here as well

It all depends on how much you love the sciences. For me, all 4 tests were easy because I had a genuine interest in the subject material.

Yup, you need to take honors bio, chem, or physics and get good grades in order to move on to the AP levels. No APs are taken before junior year.

At my school, you have to take regular/honors bio and chem before AP bio and regular/honors chem and, like, algebra 2 or something before AP chem. And the prerequisites for AP Physics are I think chemistry, pre-calc, and regular/honors physics.

Yeah, definitely. At my school we have introductory courses to give us a taste of what we'll see in the AP courses and also to give us options to see what we'd like to take. I didn't go straight to my AP Biology class without prior knowledge (even though I didn't remember anything from freshman year Honors Biology) but we sometimes do some short reviews, and it's usually pretty straightforward, only more in-depth.
