Do you need to report your AP scores if it's already on your transcript?

I have the same question…

I assumed that AP exams are completely independent from the school aside from exam administration hosting, but in any case, if it is already on your transcript and the score can be verified to be official, then no. But if you can afford to report the scores anyways, do so just to be safe. (Nice non-profit organization we have there, CollegeBoard.)

Well, it seems that none of the universities I am applying to explicitly say anything about it, and the College Board makes it seem like such a hassle: unlike SATs, you have to go on the phone to request AP score reporting. So if anything, I guess I’ll just wait and see if any of my universities come knocking at my door asking for official school reports, though sifting a few related threads have made me a little confident that this isn’t necessary.
