I was wondering should I send in my AP scores now or should I send later, given I might not even be admitted. Are they even part of the admissions process?

you send your AP scores to them in the fall for placement in courses. For admission purposes they only glance at your AP scores, just to see that your AP courses are valid (see if your grades and AP scores roughly match up).
I wish they’d weigh AP scores as much as SAT’s though.

Do subject tests carry more wight than AP tests?

I think so… since AP scores aren’t officially considered… but I wish it were the other way around! :)

Definitely. I went to one of Penn’s information sessions during the summer and someone asked a question regarding the importance of AP scores. The response was (paraphrased):

We just look over them. Mainly we see if you have the same number of AP scores as AP classes. If you don’t report something, we just assume that you got a 3.

If you have all 5’s on your AP scores, would that boost your application in the context that your GPA is mediocre (i.e 3.75 out of 4 unweighted)

*Assume around 12-15 AP scores

It seems that as soon I ask a question, everyone hesitates to go on that respective thread >.>

lol

Eurozan, my S had 13 APs and I think colleges did factor the rigor of his courseload in their decision. I think that they understand that the kids pushing themselves are not always going to be ranked in the top 3 (depending on the school, of course) simply because kids with 13 APs are in fact doing double the work of others.

In other words I believe you will be recognized for the rigor of your courseload, but you can’t go too low in the ranking, or they will assume you bit off more than you can chew.

um…what if you took or will take 15 college credit/AP courses upon ur graduation but kinda had a 3.7 gpa? bit off more than I can chew? My school doesn’t do weighted but when I calculated my weighted using my friends weighted scale (who goes to a private school) it comes out to a 4.33… i really hope Penn really looks at the rigor of your schedule.

Edit: Rank 27/283 (top 10%)

I think you’ll be fine

I think Penn has it’s own method of calculating gpa. I think the dp said average gpa was 3.83 unweighted one year so you’re a little low but hope for the best

My rank is 37/450ish. With a 3.82. I think it’ll be okay
