AP scores and selective schools

What kind of role do the scores you get on ap exams play?

Should I withhold scores below 4?

AP’s can earn you introductory college credit (depending on the college). For example, if you get a 5 on AP Calculus, you can probably skip the first semester of calculus while in college. Usually, a 3 or 4 is enough to obtain credit, in other cases you may need a 5.

I wouldn’t withhold any 3’s. I’m not so sure if you can withhold a bunch of 2’s or 1’s (since sending an AP score report would send all AP’s taken).

You self-report your AP scores on applications, meaning you can choose which they see and which they don’t. You don’t actually send your scores until you’ve been accepted.

For selective schools, withhold 1’s and 2’s. A 3 may be worth withholding if it happens to be related to your major, and even then, you might as well still report it.

AP exam scores don’t matter too much. They are more interested in seeing you take AP courses and get good grades in them.

So colleges wouldn’t hold it against me if on the application I only sent in my 4’s and 5’s?
