AP scores importance

How much do AP scores matter? I have an A in AP Chem but my teacher is terrible and we are way behind. I don’t see myself getting a 4 or 5. Will it look bad that I got an A in the class but didn’t send my AP scores?

It very well might not look the greatest. A lot depends on how many other APs you have taken. You still have a week and a half left. If I were you, I’d study my brains out. Take practice tests. Identify weaknesses. Break out the textbook and fix those weaknesses. Rinse and repeat.

Generally, I believe SAT scores and GPA matters more.

I asked our school college counselor a very similar question. I took several AP courses, but I had no desire to take AP English despite earning a good grade. Truth be told I really struggle with both lit and lang and it’s only by sheer force of will and a lot of patience that I can do well. Sometimes I can spend a whole week polishing an essay and barely eek out a B+ or A-. While ideally there is a matching AP score for each AP test, my counselor says most admissions will recognize that students must prioritize. Preparing for AP takes some time, so it is better to really do well on a couple of AP’s than to spread yourself too thin and get a bunch of 3’s.

If you think you have a shot and you don’t have any other AP’s to prep for (and you have time to study for your final exams), then like @TheSATTeacher says you can definitely pull it together and give it a shot. Worst case scenario is you cancel your score (I believe you can do this through early June) and it won’t show up on your AP score report that’s sent to schools.
