I was just wondering how important scoring well on AP tests is when applying to selective schools...HYPS, etc...do they look more at the number of exams taken or the actual scores? Would 4s hurt my chances at these places?
I took APUSH and APGov (self-taught) this year; next year I'll do Bio, BC Calc, French, and English. (My school mostly offers IB, which I'm taking as well.) I am seriously doubting that I got a 5 in APUSH...mostly I'm just interested to know, in general, what's the norm for students applying to highly selective schools.

There are a great deal of existing threads on this exact topic. I’ll go look for some if you would like me to.

AP scores are self reported, are not a significant factor in admissions, aim for 4’s and 5’s, 3’s won’t kill you, 2’s and 1’s aren’t good but won’t make or break your app, the rest of your app is more important, if your course load is most challenging then you’re fine.

I’ve just summed up countless threads of discussion on this topic for you. No problem :)

There are many threads on this exact question. Generally, AP scores are used for college credit granting purposes, not for admissions decisions.

I’m pretty sure that for most schools ap scores are only used for placement purposes and not admissions…
