AP Scores.. Just How Much Do They Matter

Hi guys, as an incoming senior, I have taken 7 AP courses and 8 AP tests with 6 of those classes and tests taken during Junior Year. Now, the problem I am wondering is how much do colleges weigh such scores during admission process and is it necessary to submit my less than desirable AP scores ( yes I know there have been many threads about this but I couldn’t find a clear cut answer)? The reason I do not wish to submit some of my scores is because I got 4s on the AP but an A in the class and I also got a 2 on AP physics C though I ended with a B in the class… I don’t want colleges to think my grades are inflated because I worked hard to earn my grades. What do you guys think?

They don’t look at AP scores for admission. They are used to get college credit. They consider the AP classes you took in assessing rigor. Don’t send the grades until you’ve selected a school to attend.

^That.

Plus, this question has been answered several times before.

Don’t you self report scores? And it should validate your class scores.

I know this question has been answered but the answers have always been so vague or controversial…

Report 4s and 5s, but nothing else.

Ehh, colleges expect grade inflation anyway. It’s kinda irrelevant.

Thanks for such a prompt response! however, would it seem weird that I have taken 8 AP classes but only 7 AP exams are being self reported? Would colleges know I didnt do well on the exam so I didnt self report or I decided not to take the AP Exam?

I wouldn’t worry too much. Send in the scores that you want to and that’s fine, they really won’t care about you not sending in the 8th one. AP test scores are such a minor aspect of your applications. What they really care about is that you are challenging yourself in the classes that you are taking and doing well in them. Then mix in your recommendations, extra curriculars, essays and everything else in your application and your AP scores will really hold no weight. No college will not accept you because of AP scores alone, there would have to be more red flags than that. The scores will help you when it comes to placements in classes once you’ve already been accepted, but for now you’re fine! Good luck!!!
