I agree with the first reason, though I’m still somewhat doubtful because I checked the correct FRQ answers posted in this forum right after the test and agreed with most of them. I thought I should have gotten at least a 4 for that… and as for the reliability of AP Pass (or lack thereof :P), it said on the site that the scoring had been adjusted to the new rubric. I don’t know…

Well to be honest and possibly offer redundant/unsolicited opinion, there’s no reason to speculate or worry about your 3 unless you want to have a story when people ask you about your relatively low score. Unfortunately, the only thing CB will re-check if you pay is MC.

I’m looking at the score distribution for calc BC last year, and about half got a 5. Yup, it does suck not to be that 50%, just as it sucks for me to admit I may have a weakness in lit. But then again, neither of us are majoring in something that focuses on our 3 so I have no shame.

As for the AP Pass rubric, I don’t believe CB has released an official cut-off chart. I read somewhere that this stuff is decided prior to grading by a committee of graders and this information isn’t consistently released. So, it’s unlikely that AP Pass is accurate given that they haven’t seen a cut-off chart with no MC penalty. Hence I said they extrapolated.
The part about adjusting to the new rubric is determining composite score, not the 1-5 socre that is based off your composite.

P.S. I believe you deserved a 5! And I highly admire your style of writing even in these informal forums.

Thanks for the compliment But since this is a pretty important AP, I think it’s still worthwhile to ensure that the score was accurate. So that’s $25 for the MC rescoring and $7 for the FRQ booklet… I’ll pay for both services just so I can confirm that 1) the MC score was correct, and 2) they didn’t lose my FRQ’s. Mistakes have happened before - I’ve read quite a few posts on these forums about people who got 1’s and 2’s that were supposed to have been 4’s and 5’s.

EDIT: Ooh, I found the new rubric! It was linked on AP Pass. For some reason PDF files aren’t opening correctly on my computer, so I can’t see them, but this is what AP Pass purports to be based off of:

Haha yeah I really really really hate taking writing classes and I do need a 5 to skip one.
I had no idea you can rescore FRQ! I’ll be doing this too then I guess.

Oh there’s that link I had been looking for. Those are the ones with the cut-off charts, formally known as conversion charts. Now you’ll notice there isn’t a 2011 one…

Oh, sorry if I wasn’t clear - FRQ’s aren’t rescored. But you can order your original FRQ booklet to confirm that it wasn’t lost. Sometimes CB makes a mistake and forgets to add the FRQ score to the MC score (which I suspect might have happened in my case). Look in this thread for some posts by people who reported that this happened to them:

I see what you mean about the extrapolation thing. I mean, if Calc BC wasn’t an important test for me, I wouldn’t really care But it is, which makes me think that requesting score verification is worth the $32…

You may want to check your knowledge with the sample Math 1A and 1B final exams here:

[Choosing an Appropriate First Math Course — UC Berkeley College of Engineering](http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/new-students/choosing-an-appropriate-first-math-course.html)

@ ucbalumnus: Thanks for that link! Ironically the Math 1A finals seem really intense, whereas I think I’d do well on the 1B ones after just a bit of review (I’ve forgotten some things over the summer). Would you advise requesting a rescore in my case?

Whether asking for a rescore is worthwhile depends on whether a higher score actually matters for your major or subsequent courses, and whether you think they made an error in scoring.

ucbalumnus only my AP test from this year has shown up on my DARs…should i be worried?

Here’s the thing - I applied with a linguistics major and was accepted to L & S, but I’ve recently been rethinking my interests and might eventually end up transferring to CoE after my freshman year. That’s why the difference between a 3 and a 5 on this test is important for me. As I posted before, I also checked the correct FRQ answers posted in the AP forum right after the test and agreed with most of them. I didn’t think I did that badly on the multiple choice questions either, yet according to the AP Pass calculator I had to have earned less than half the total points on the test. If the score remains the same I’ll just accept it and take Math 1B, but I want to make sure it’s right.

@ mjmay7: Only my 2011 AP tests have shown up. Don’t worry about that - you’re not alone.

My scores are up! 5 on Calc BC and 5 on the AB subscore.

Mine aren’t up yet :(

I sent my 2011 ap scores via college board and paid the rush fee on july 1st… but my 2011 scores are not up on myberkeleyapp nor the DARS yet… im worried :S

if our scores are on the myberkeleyapp, that means we don’t have to call and confirm them, right?
