I feel like I shouldn't be so clueless about this, but I have no idea how any of it works. My counselor seems to be even more clueless, so I'll ask CC: how does one send AP scores to colleges? is it necessary? are their deadlines same as the application ones? also, if, for example, I only want to send one score and withhold the other, how does that happen?

Thank you so, so much in advance. I hope it's not too late for me..

It is not necessary to send AP scores. You may self report them and then send after your acceptance if you want credit.

If you have done very well (5s) on APs and think it may boost your application, then it doesn’t hurt to send them. However, many AdComs will tell you they do not consider APs when making decisions.

The Parents Board has many folks who have been through this with multiple kids and could advise if APs will aid at all in certain schools.

Yes, I am sure AP scores are not required for admission. There may be a school I am not aware of, but believe me, I have reviewed many, many schools over the last 3 years. I’m a parent and have helped extended family and neighbors as a “pseudo” counselor since our school district doesn’t have college counseling. Again, if the scores are high, I’d self report them. Paying CB to send them in is not necessary until you want the credits.

AP scrores are not required for admission by any college. There are a small number, like NYU, that allow you to submit such scores instead of SAT or SAT II scores if you so desire. Otherwise if you want a school to know your AP scores for admission, you can self-report them in app, essay, or send a copy of your scores to the admissions office with a letter that asks that the copy be included in your admission file. You do not have to pay for official scores to be sent until after you are admitted to a college to get college credit for the courses.

I’m pretty sure they’re not required, but if you got 4s or 5s you should really send them, because they will help! Usually, however, if you decide to send scores colleges will request that you send ALL your scores. So if you did poorly on one you might want to rethink sending any.
