AP scores

hello guys, i'm currently an incoming senior in high school. i just received my ap scores and i'm surprised about my apush score.

soph
ap chinese 5
ap calc ab 5
ap bio 5
ap world 5

junior
ap chem 5
ap calc bc 5
apush 2

is the 2 in apush going to affect my chance for berkeley?

nope

10char

Definitely not.

lmao do you think you got a 2, if not you should try to maybe ask for the rescore? although I doubt the rescore ever usually results in a change. Just considering all your 5’s i would assume a 2 would be pretty difficult for you to get XD It won’t affect your chances for berkeley at all. you dont have to report it if you dont want to, it will just say ‘not all scores were reported’

if your essay is about your passion for history, maybe in the slightest way, otherwise, no

so if i choose not to report the scores when i apply, can i still send the scores for credit after (if they accept me)? and one more questions guys. i’m a chinese immigrant (came here in 2001). my english is okay but not awesome. if i choose not to take ap english for my senior year, will that affect my chances in anyway?

on the application is says that you MUST report all ap scores. one 2 will not affect your chances even the slightest bit. also, you won’t get rejected or accepted on 1 ap class so quite freaking out

Why not take AP English? You just might score high enough to get credit against reading and composition courses (4 or 5).

The other scores 3 or higher will give you credit, but subject credit depends on your major. 5 on Calculus BC is the most generally useful, allowing you to skip a year of freshman calculus (Math 1A and 1B) if you are confident in your calculus knowledge to take more advanced math courses.

since you have already taken BC calc you should take multivariable and another math class(discrete or differential equations or linear algebra) at sum CC or university to further challenge yourself

Note that if you take university sophomore level math courses, you may want to try to complete all of multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, so that you won’t have issues with partial course credit (e.g. Math 54 at Berkeley covers linear algebra and differential equations, but these are often two separate courses, especially at quarter system schools).

^^i know how that goes…i couldn’t fit linear into my schedule so now i have to retake differentials also :(

i’m not really a strong student in english because i was born in china. i’m still debating whether to take ap english or not. if i take it the best i can do is probably get a 3 on the ap exam. but i’m currently taking english1a at a local cc this summer for the analytical writing requirement and RC1A.

and guys, since i will not be taking any calculus related class for my senior year, do you recommend me to retake math 1b (BC) next summer in cc to refresh my memory and get ready for higher level math? because im planning to skip 1b at berkeley if i get in.

Taking English R1A and R1B equivalents at the community college is a way to fulfill the R&C requirement.

Why not take the sophomore level math this coming year to keep the math in your brain fresh?

well i dont really have a way to get to the cc during regular school days so i dont think i can take anything outside of summer. next summer im planning to take some breaths and/or retake calculus II (1B) at cc. should i retake 1b?

and just to make sure. eng1a at cc fulfills the analytical writing requirement and the 1st semester of reading and composition right?

Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see if a course at a California community college is equivalent to English R1A. If so, it fulfills the Entry Level Writing Requirement and R&C A if you take it before you enter Berkeley and get a C- grade or higher.

thank you ucbalumnus.
do you recommend me taking ap english senior year even though my english is not awesome?

Well, if you complete English R1A through a community college course, taking AP English would only improve your placement if you get a 5 on AP English Literature. But then there is the question that you would be effectively repeating your community college course. Even if that is your only option, better to take that than a regular high school English course if you want the best preparation for university level work.

Are you sure that you cannot get to a community college during the school year to take English R1B and math courses? Is this a policy at your high school to not allow that, or is it purely a transportation issue (no public transportation or driving possible), or scheduling issue (community college courses not at the right times)?

don’t retake math 1b…just refresh on your own because it is a waste of money. you should, instead, take multivariable if you really want to take a math course during the summer

@ucbalumnus

i guess i’ll just take ap english.
i cant take cc classes during the school year because i dont have a car to drive and i cant get to the bart without my parents driving me there. but they will be working at the time of the classes.

@mjmay7

i was thinking about just showing up to the class without signing up for it. like just sit there and listen to the lecture without getting a grade for it.

Bay Area Rapid Transit?

How far do you live from the BART station or other public transit that will take you to a community college (see 511.org for a trip planner)?

Note that you can use a bicycle to extend your range. If you can run, run to the BART or other public transit stop to increase your range over walking (free exercise also).
