AP Scores

Do we send OFFICIAL AP scores in to the colleges that ask you to list AP scores? PLease answer....... this is the $165 question..

No, you don't have to send them until you enroll - at least, not on any app that I've ever seen.

NO -- just self-report them on your college app, if you think they will help (look at the school's website to see what they give credit for; e.g., a 3 would not help at Harvard). You can send ap scores once you are admitted.

Just write all of your SAT scores on your application. You do not need to send them. If you lie, you are at risk of being expelled, so they trust you to tell the truth. Most schools also include them on transcripts.

I disagree with Blue, though. You ought to write down every score in almost every circumstance. If the class is on your transcript as AP and no score is reported, they will assume you got a one on the test. You should own up to your scores. The only time I would say you don't need to write one down is if did poorly on a test you self-studied for whose class isn't written on your transcript.

Or they will assume you did not take the test. I know overacheivers who might take 5 AP courses, but only 3 exams. It is just too much to study for 5 exams, practice sports, do well in the courses themselves, work, etc.

If your AP results are a strong part of your application, this should be noted in your GC's letter also.

i didn't self-report my AP scores because the thought never occured to me. is it really important?

If they are not on your transcript, it is quite important. Didn't your applications have a spot for them? All of mine did.

Jesus we need to sticky a note that says DO NOT SEND IN OFFICIAL AP REPORTS FROM CB!!!

I know. And a sticky for the stupid double spacing essay questions.

elizabeth:

since ap scores are not designed to be used for college admissions, the lack of the scores cannot hurt you. However, 5's in tough AP classes (Euro Hist, Chem, Physics, Bio, Lit, Calc) could definitely help at all colleges.

I disagree with afan -- I would not want the GC spending time and valuable commenting on the ap scores; IMO, teacher/GC recs, like essays, should not spend time on stuff that is listed elsewhere on the app, unless to explain away a poor score. Any adcom will mentally use the scores how s/he sees fit.

thanks bluebayou.
anyways, in regards to the stupid double spacing essay questions. do we have to? just wondering cause i already submitted my apps.

Only if the college requests it. :)
