AP scores

I know that AP scores help you place in higher level classes and in turn save you money and time, but should I be worried more about the class grade itself than how well I do on the test? Obviously I'll study and try my best, but its not the end of the world if I get a 2 or a 3 on an exam, right? Another thing is (in regards to the science AP's) I read that medical schools prefer you take the college level course vs. taking the AP credit; for example; I score a 5 on the AP Chem test, the medical school will still require I take Ochem. So in that alone it kind of makes me feel like no matter what I get on the AP test I'll still have to just take the college level course. Correct any of my fallacies if there are any, and please give feedback and advice! Thanks!

AP tests taken senior year do not factor into admissions, that’s correct. Those taken before – are fair game to use in the overall evaluation process.

My take is that come May of your Senior year – you’ll already know what college you’ll be attending. Study its policies and if it’s in your best interest to take the AP tests that you know you can ace, then go for it – you’ll never be more ready or ripe for that test. If you think you’ll only get a 3 and the college won’t give a darn, I say “skip it”. No one, for the rest of your life, will care.

What about in the case of junior year APs? I don’t feel so confident about the Econ or Lang tests despite my efforts (bought numerous prep books to prepare me for May, still haven’t been helping…) I am quite certain I’ll get a 4-5 on my AP Bio exam because it’s my favorite subject and I remember everything from it. How will a college view this when looking over my transcript/admission file? How heavily will it be considered if I get 2’s or 3’s on the Econ or Lang tests?

EDIT: currently in my junior year

bump for more opinions/advice

I’ve noticed that some of the LACs that I’ve been looking at do state that you won’t get any AP credit for courses required for your degree. So if I have to take “BIO 110” for my biology degree then my AP class won’t count for credit but if it is not required then I could use the credit towards an elective.

On the other hand, even if it is required and my course credit won’t count, it should be an easy A.

Bump - in dire need of advice/help
