Hello, I am an upcoming senior in our high school.
I want to get into an Ivy League, or another top tier school. I took two AP classes: AP US History and AP English Language and Composition. Both of the classes were very rigorous, and were both on line. I averaged a 94.7% on AP English Language and a 97% on my AP US History. However, I got a 3 on my APUSH and a 4 on my AP English Lang. Should I withhold my APUSH score?
No; you passed. Regardless, AP scores carry little to no weight in the admissions process; they are used mainly for credit and/or placements. Withholding scores, however, may cause the AO to assume that:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application.
However, the combination of a poor AP score with a high grade in the class (A, A+) makes it seem like your school’s curriculum isn’t very rigorous and you classes are easy. Just keep that in mind when.
