So I just checked my AP scores…
4 in APUSH, I’m ok with that I guess
However in Chem and Physics 1 I did very poorly. I got a 2 in chem and a 1 on Physics. Now I’ll be honest, on chem I was kinda expecting something like that because chemistry was just a very difficult class for me and I only got a B+ in it. However in Physics I was expecting much better given that I was right on the cusp of an A+ second semester. Honestly it was a pretty hard class and I worked very hard and studied alot to get that grade but the exam was just filled with stuff that my classmates and I really didn’t know. I know this is the first year of AP Physics 1 and 2 so do you think colleges will take into consideration that the scores might be lower due to the new curriculum that the teachers had to adjust to which may have resulted in them not teaching it as well? For reference, 63% of people got a 1 or 2 on the AP Phys 1 exam so its not like I am alone here but thats obviously not an excuse. I guess my question is should I report my Chem and Phys scores and if I do, will colleges totally disregard my high A in physics or will they give me the benefit of the doubt knowing that the curriculum may not have been very well taught, especially looking at the national score distribution?
I’d recommend that you don’t report these scores, but it is your decision in the end. From what I’ve been told, AP scores carry little weight compared to the grades you earned during the school year. They’re mainly for placement/exemption purposes. Hope this helps!
I wouldn’t report the low scores, because you are not going to get credit for them anyway through the college, and since they are low they aren’t going to help you. The college you are applying to will likely not know that it is the first time the class is being offered, or that 63% of the people from your school did poorly. They will just see the score. The grade in the class definitely outshines the AP score. And a B+ in AP Chem is great! Most do very badly in that class, you should be proud
