Hey everyone, I have two questions about the upcoming AP tests.

1.) Do colleges automatically find out your AP scores? (i.e. is it on your transcript)
2.) If not, what constitutes a good enough score to be sent to the top 20-30 colleges? Is a 4 considered good for these schools?

Thanks guys!

our HS does not put the scores on the transcript, and your's should not either. Do not pay money to CB to send your AP scores during the application process -- just self-report good scoresin the Other box on the app.

For what is considered a good score, go to the school's website and see what they give credit for....for example, H only gives credit for 5's, whereas many publics give credit for 3's. Personally, I'd list 4's and 5's to any school, as long as you have some 5's.

Many applications ask about AP courses AND scores, so you are sort of stuck putting them on the application.

Just go to a state school. You'll get as good an education for cheaper and have better sports and bigger parties.

^^^^um....random.

The apps that I filled out didn't have a spot for AP's--I had to put them in the "do you have anything else you want us to know" box. Actually, I take that back..I think Cornell had a spot for AP scores in its supplement, but it wasn't on the common app or anything. Report them if they're 4s or 5s or if the college gives credit for a 3. Otherwise, I wouldn't mention it.

My point is that most state schools don't care about APs if your GPA and SAT are good so you don't need to take years off your life worrying about this stuff.

no, you have the choice of which ap scores you send. and for the top colleges, sending a 4 or 5 usually can't hurt your chance of admission, but its not going to be a huge help either. so if you're applying to a top 10 school (i.e. stanford, duke, etc), you probably would be better off not sending it. anyways, you can send it later on, if you need to.

To the OP: Colleges receive a score report around the same time you do in the summer (early/mid July). Most schools don't put AP grades on students' transcripts. You should find out from your guidance department whether your school does.

Check out http://apps.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy/index.jsp
and just type the name of any one of those colleges. Most colleges put their AP Credit Policies online. For the BEST colleges, as a rule of thumb, I'd say at LEAST a 4 is good enough, but some colleges take only 5's.
no, no, no, do NOT send official scores with your app. There is no need to waste your money. Just self-report any 'good' scores.

this is kinda late, but thanks guys!
