Is it worth sending AP scores if you got a 2 or 3? I know the answer is probably not but will colleges suspect something if you don’t send scores?
Not for admissions. But I know some state schools will give credit for 3’s (which provides a hint to the rigor/quality of those school).
You could argue that colleges don’t want to see 2s and 3s, but on the flipside you could say colleges would rather see that you tried and failed instead of not trying at all(apparently they will assume you didn’t take the AP if you don’t send your score). It’s a tough call, you might want to talk with your GC about it.
Ok thank you both!
If your class appears on your transcript as AP, I’d recommend reporting your score, particularly if you scored a 3+. Withholding scores may cause the AO to assume that:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application.
I would first look at potential colleges of interest and see if they would give you credit for a 3 on that test.
Talk to your GC…I probably wouldn’t report if I got a 2.
