my rule of thumb is that if an AP score will earn college credit then show it on your app. If it does not earn credit (or placement in another course), then it adds zero value to your application package, and is not worth reporting.

I know the College board lets you fully expunge individual tests from your record, so if you want to show USH and stats to Columbia but not English, this might be an option for you. If you are a Columbia hopeful I doubt any of your other schools would give credit for the 3 anyway so you are probly better off if you can just take it off the record.

thanks guys..

but doesnt it look bad if i expunge the score, as in, wouldnt the colleges be suspicious?

my GC and english teacher (Columbia TA/knows stuff about the admissions office) say that they look at the scores, even if you dont want credit. well it seems that they think that. my GC says i should not send them, but my english teacher says i should b/c the admissions committiee would wonder what i got considering most kids applying have 4's and 5's.

ah, this is so nerve wracking.

"my english teacher says i should b/c the admissions committiee would wonder what i got considering most kids applying have 4's and 5's"

I would respond that its better to let them wonder and maybe suspect you got a 3 then to actually confirm it...

If you get rid of the scores they might think you got a 2 or a 1.

exactly, hence my dilemna

i can send the scores, but they will then frown upon my grade in the class (which by no means was easy), or it will hurt me b/c i did not get a 4 or a 5

even my english teacher was surprised when i told him i got a 3. he def was not expecting it.

no clue what to do.. im boarderline for columbia, so this just might push me over the edge, or take me under.

Wait, can colleges see that you expunged the score?

You don't actually send scores until you are enrolled in a college. You can choose to report your scores on your application or you can choose not to. The Common App doesn't even have a space to report AP scores. Colleges are not supposed to use them for evaluation, only placement.

So you can self report your good scores and not report your poor one or not report any of them. If you report some scores, however, and not others, the colleges will assume you either didn't take the test or got a low score. If Columbia accepts the Common App, I would go this route so that you don't have to leave a space blank or give them scores that you are not happy with.

shennie is correct. Do not waste money sending official AP score reports until you have selected a college May 1 of your senior year. Just self-report scores in the Other section of the app; report only scores that show you the best.

I would put all of them, because if you don't put the 3, they'll either assume that you took the clas and not the exam, or that you failed the exam, which would look worse for you. At least 3 is passing.
