Hi everyone! I'm applying to Wellesley early decision and I don't know whether or not I should send my AP Scores in. I got a 3 in AP US History and a 4 in AP English language and Composition. I know, they're not very good scores. So is it better to send it in or not? I don't want to seem like I'm hiding something, but I also don't want this to ruin my chances of getting in. Thanks to everyone who replies :)

Well, neither a 4 or a 3 are “bad” scores, but neither count for Wellesley credit. I don’t know the role that AP scores play, if any in admission. Do you remember that there was only one school option to send your scores to (at least there was when I took it back in 2003/2004)? That’s because sending scores is for seniors who know where they are going and they need the college they are going to attend to give them credit if applicable. The fact that you have taken AP classes should show up on your high school transcript. Wellesley will probably notice that.

don’t do it.
getting anything below a 4/5 shows colleges that you can’t handle college level courses.

you can send them in but they probably won’t help your application. then again, if your transcript says you took the AP classes but you didn’t submit a score, adcoms will wonder why you didn’t either take the test or submit your score.

You aren’t supposed to “submit” AP scores as a perspective student. AP tests aren’t for getting you into college, they are for placing you out of introductory college classes.

If there’s a place on an application to write them down, by all means, do so (3 and 4 are passing grades people). Nothing on Wellesley’s website says “tell us your AP scores”, it just says “this is what we do with them when you get here”.

Yeah, that situation is a hard one because the application now asks for AP scores when it didn’t used to. I think you should self report the 4 at least.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

I might not send the scores in because I don’t want them to be the cause of rejection…

College_ruled: can I only send one score in?

You can self report as many scores as test scores that you have.

When you actually send in the scores, you have to send them all in – however, by that point, won’t you already have been accepted to a school, so it wouldn’t necessarily matter? (I don’t remember the exact timeline of admissions vs. ap scores…)

J, I don’t know if “these days” you have to send AP scores like you must officially send ACT/ SAT scores to each school for the admissions process. The absence of scores “could” hurt you too. (I am just a student, so I don’t know which would be your better option.) Good luck!
