Hi,
I received my AP scores yesterday and they were unexpectedly low. I took APUSH (3), APChem(2), APCompSci(1). My final grade in APUSH was 92%, in APChem was 87% and APCompSci was 94%. I sort of expected a bad score in APCompSci since programming is just not my thing and I can barely understand it but I've done good in APUSH and APChem classes. I was pretty sure I did a good job on the AP tests. I was very disappointed when I found out my scores. The first thing I was thinking, could CB make a mistake when grading my tests (not add up open-ended and multiple-choice scores)?

I thought that I would at least get a 4 on APUSH (I did very good on the tests/essays/DBQs in class) and at least a 3 on APChem test (not so good on multiple-choice but I thought I aced the open-ended part).
Should I ask them to re-score my tests? If so, how could I do that?
Any information would be appreciated.

Please, and do I have to report my grades to colleges (if I don’t, would that be considered canceling the scores?)? Should I bother sending the scores at all? I’m applying to UConn, RPI, WPI, RIT(?), Drexel, Cornell, BU.

You can ask to have the test hand-scored. That will probably show if you skipped one multiple choice question or something.

You don’t have to report the scores to your colleges if you don’t want to. If you didn’t already list the colleges when you registered for the test, then they won’t see the scores unless you ask the College Board to send them (and pay $15). That wouldn’t be “cancelling” the scores, it just wouldn’t be sending them.

If you do decide to send them, AP scores are an all-or-nothing kind of deal. You can’t request that they send the APUSH, but not the Chem and Comp Sci. With the 2 and the 1, I’d be inclined not to send them.

Thank you!
How do I ask CB to hand-score my tests and how much would it cost?

If your score-grade combinations are typical for your school, maybe something is wrong with the AP classes. Or you got your answer sheets mixed up somehow, I don’t know.

I mean, Comp Sci was your highest grade.

I took comp sci online, so that was easy since I got to use books and all… but I studied very hard in chem and history. How do I ask CB to hand-score them?

I’d call the AP Exam number at Collegeboard and ask them if they handscore the multiple choice, and if so how you can request it. 888-225-5427, during regular business hours. I’m not positive they do hand-scoring for AP exams, but they do it for the SAT. The back of your score report says you can purchase your free-response booklet from the current year’s exam, but they don’t contain any comments, corrections or scores.

That’s a really wide discrepancy between your class grade and the AP Tests. Did you take them all online? Or in class at school?

I took APUSH and APChem in school and I felt that I would do good on both of the exams.
