AP Scores

When I registered for the AP test, I sent scores to 1 college. Does this mean the college has already received the scores?

Now I want to send my scores to 13 other colleges. Do I call CB to have my scores sent? After I send them, do they immediately receive the scores?

I have to pay $15 to send to each college right? I took 10 tests, but the number of tests shouldn't matter right?

I assume you are applying to 13-14 colleges. Please review the admission requirements for every college. I expect you will discover that none of them want your AP scores right now.

AP scores may be self-reported in your applications. However, they are generally not used for admission purposes. Standardized tests used for admission are generally limited to SAT, ACT and, in some instances, SAT II subject tests.

Once you have your acceptances in hand and decide which college you will attend, then in connection with enrollment, you will send the AP scores to that school for their use in giving you either credit or advanced placement, depending on your scores and their practices. You can see how each college treats AP scores by doing a keyword search of the college website – try “AP credit” or “AP score.”

There are only a few colleges to which you actually need to send official AP scores for purpose of admission. Those are ones that give you the choice to submit APs rather than SAT IIs or even SATs. NYU is one of those – you can send SAT (or ACT) OR 3 SAT IIs OR 3 APs to meet test requirement. For those it would mean you are exercising that choice to rely on APs rather than other tests. For all other colleges, you can just self-report scores on app, in essay, or simply send a letter with a photocopy of the scores if you want college to be aware of them. They are not required but might be considered in the mix of things. In other words, save your money until after you are admitted and then want your chosen college to consider the official scores for purpose of college credit.

I know what I’m doing. It’s a myth that AP scores have no impact on admissions, despite that they’re self-reported. I talked to an UCLA admissions officer and he said that the UC system do consider AP scores in admissions on a pretty significant level, and said that this is especially true for my case (I won’t get too much into that). This may or may not be true for the private colleges I’m applying to, but even if the scores have minimal influence on admissions to those colleges, I am willing to send them for that amount of influence.

Please don’t bring this up again.

On that note, I need a quick way to send my scores to a college that I’m applying ED too. What is a quick method for me to contact CB and have it send my scores within the next day or so?

In certain cases AP scores are taken into account, but for college admission purposes, self reporting on the application is usually more than sufficient. There is no point spending hundreds of dollars sending AP score reports to all the schools you’re applying to, in my opinion-----make sure the colleges actually look at your score report, and that the scores will actually land in the admissions office and not a department that’s for course placement purposes only.

Otherwise, what you’re asking for can be found on the Collegeboard website:

I would call the phone number provided on the website to ask about your specific circumstance.
