ap section reform

Hi,

I wanted to post some thoughts on the AP sections. They’re a great source of info but there are several flaws that hinder the area:

Pinned topics. The Book Suggestion/Self Study threads are fine, but the other six threads can all be condensed into one thread. Once Ap “season” starts, you can post a thread reminding them of the rules for two weeks, and then delete the reminder. That makes the top of the forum much less cluttered and easier to navigate. People will actually read the rules if it’s one concise “AP Exam FAQ & Rules Thread”. If you want, I’d be happy to write this up.

One section is too little. I feel a lot of good threads are lost because there’s just too many new topics coming up all the time, and the quality ones sink because nobody notices them. Some threads stay but several good ones don’t.

I suggest we have sections for specific AP exams. For example, we have about 10 different “official ____ exam 2010 discussion thread” floating around. If they had an entire section with all that info moved there, then it would be much easier to study for exams.

An argument could be made that the search function can be used to find the thread, but this is valid only in theory. I’m sure many of us can agree that there are several threads we read and new poster questions sometimes die out because there’s so much activity that everything just sinks to the bottom.

If there were sections for individual subjects, it would lead to much faster searching, more accurate results, less misplaced information, and informational threads relevant to that exam could be pinned.

What I am proposing would require the construction of multiple subforums. Instead, I suggest we just make one for now: AP Mathematics. Move all the calculus and statistics threads there, and see how it goes. I’m certain it would be much more helpful, and this can later be expanded for AP Science, AP Social Science, AP English, and so forth. Users could then directly go to their relevant sections instead of wasting time through all the topics. Furthermore, the main section could be converted into a place for general exam discussion, questions about registration and such, and just like a FAQ forum.

I know it would take a lot of effort to move all the topics to the new section, but as I’ve said earlier, I would be willing to put in that effort and I’m sure the other CC staff would be up to the challenge.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input. I will pass along to the mods!

Any progress?

I spend a lot of time in the AP section and I am in full support of these proposed changes. To be honest, good threads really do get lost in a matter of just days, and I always find myself having to look through my subscribed threads list to find something again (since the search feature is rather bland, to be honest. But that’s neither here nor there).

If there was a sub-section for each major category, as proposed, such as social sciences, math, science, etc. then it would be greatly beneficial, because for example, a lot of discussions for one AP social studies class can possibly be applied to another social studies class (e.g. DBQ tips could apply to both AP World History and AP USH).

Sorry for the delay An0maly. Your input is in the queue, so to speak.

Any follow up on this? Thanks.

I just sent you a PM, An0maly. Thanks for your patience.
