AP Self-Study Results?

Would anyone like to share what ap course you self-studied, preparations for the test and the results?

I'm thinking about self-studying AP Human Geography, AP Microeconomics, and AP Macroeconomics. Need some advice on which books to use for preparation.

Thanks.

Freshman Year

AP Micro - 5, 5 steps
AP Macro - 5, 5 Steps
AP Human Geo - 5, DIDN’T STUDY LOL, waited untill the night before to study for thecfirst time because econ was the day before, read like half of Princeton Review and fell asleep.Although, I am a boss at geography so it probably isn’t typical. The exam is a joke because a bunch of idiot freshman take it and fail. Cutoff is 60% for a 5 while it is the easiest exam.
AP Psych - 5, Barrons and Crash Course

i have like 12 self-studies, but I’ll give you the ones that you want to do haha

AP Human, 5. Princeton review
AP Micro, 5. 5 Steps
AP Macro, 5. 5 Steps

I have a lot more info on my website as well

@Emily556 - thats insane… I’m going go check out your site. thanks
@ImSoAmbitious - okay thats what I thought about human geo. heard it was easy but 5 rates are low…

AP Bio (5) Barron’s, Cliffs, PR. I hated PR though. It didn’t help me at all. Cliffs was the best by far, but since the curriculum is changing…

AP Psych (5 lol this exam is a joke. If you’re planning to self-study take this one xD)
Barron’s is all you need for a 5

AP Gov’t- 5, I bought the Princeton review and read through it the two weekends before the test but didn’t study.

I will self study AP Euro and possibly AP psych.

either way, I’d say with enough effort, you can get a 5 on any self-study though. If I were you, I’d use more than one study resource. I used multiple books for most of the tests that I took.

I agree with Emily. Except don’t waste your money on buying too many books. Do some research and see which books are most popular/recommended. Then buy those. For WHAP, I bought 4 study guides and borrowed one from the library. I took the class, but I basically slept through every period and didn’t learn anything LOL. I read every book, but it was a HUGE waste of time. I could have gotten a 5 by just reading PR because the exam was more passage-based/critical thinking than memorization.

I’ll be the first to admit that I self-studied two APs and got 2s on both of them. That said, I think I could’ve done a lot better. I didn’t even really decide I wanted to take them or start studying material until a couple of months before the tests, and even after that I studied in an on-and-off way; since it was my first year taking APs I didn’t know what to expect. I deserved what I got.

Both Physics C - 5, Baron’s and MIT OC

It was kind of a half-self study since I took the Physics B class. I guess it only makes E&M a self-study, but the courses overlap a lot. Had to study outside of class on content not in the class, so I guess it counts.

5 Steps for both Econ. Read them carefully while doing the review questions on the end of each chapter. Go through a practice test, review sections you missed, then use Reffonomics (online, free) as supplement for those topics. Repeat previous sentence as necessary. Also, go through FRQ’s regularly.

Scored 5 on both.

No difference between self-studying for an ap test and taking it as a course at school.

You choose how much preparation you want to give yourself.
