Hi all,
I am a rising junior taking AP seminar next year. Next year will be the first year my school offers the class, but I signed up for the class because I have heard amazing things about the teacher at my school, and the class seems like good preparation for college-level work. However, I’m not really clear on what the class is about. What is taught in the class, how is class time generally spent, and how is the work load compared to other AP classes?
You shouldn’t be taking a course just because you heard good things about the teacher or if you don’t know much about it; you’re stuck in that class for 9 months, make sure you know what you’re going into. All AP classes prepare you for college because they’re supposed to be college-level classes. AP Seminar is prospective to journalism majors and liberal arts/literary colleges. You are expected to do a lot of writing and if you want the Capstone Diploma (issued by CollegeBoard) you will have to take the second course to it (AP Research), but you can just take the course by itself. Took it last year, was a lot of researching, writing, and presenting. The advice id give you is to get started on you’re projects as soon as you get them, because it’s very easy to use class time as a chance to mess around with you’re mates.
