I'm taking ap stats and ap world history. In addition, I'm taking spanish 4, chemistry, trig, english, and health. The problem is stats is very difficult and I'm with all seniors (only 10th grader). Spanish and chemistry are very time consuming and I'm constantly stressed out. Stats is meant for seniors, but I got in and didn't realize how difficult the class is. Most people are taking only 1 ap history or an ap language. I guess I got too caught up with valedictorian and overwhelmed myself. What should I do? Any advice is appreciated.

If you can, drop AP Statistics. You’re already taking a math class. Even the most selective colleges don’t expect you to take more than one math class, or lab science in a particular year. If you simply continue on the track you’re on (without AP Stat this year) you’ll more than fulfill the recommended core course requirements when you graduate.

I’m planning to take Ap Calc. next year. Ap stats is an elective, and not required. I am rather stressed.

I agree with dropping stats. Does your school offer math past calculus? If not, you won’t have a math course to take your senior year.

I have AP Calc AB for junior; we don’t have BC, it is taken online senior year.

I feel intimidated since I’m the only sophomore in the class. There are other sophomores in trig., but they aren’t taking stats. I just felt like I was ready, but I guess not.

The simple solution is to drop AP Stats. One math class per year is enough. Dropping the class now will not cause any harm to you when it comes to the college application process.

I just hope I can drop it; our school is really strict when it comes to dropping electives. I’m stressed about it.

There shouldn’t be any problem with dropping the class. In all honesty, they never should have let you sign up for it in the first place. In our school, one must have completed the traditional 3 year math sequence before taking AP Stats or AP Calc.

On Monday morning, go to the guidance counselor and drop the class. If needed, have your parent make a follow-up phone call.

I guess you are right…I went to guidance, talked to them, trying to get out of it. I got in cause I am taking trig. co-currently. It used to be grades (10-12)…they changed it to (12), but yeh, it’s tough.

They’re strict with dropping aps, and we had to sign a sheet. I’m just hoping to get out of this mess.

Our school district has a policy whereby students can drop an AP class after a certain number of weeks if they find that they can’t handle the work. It’s early enough in the year that dropping the class should not be a problem for you.

Yeh, we had to sign a sheet, so that’s the only problem. And yeh, ap stats is meant for after trig., there are a few juniors in trig. taking it though. I’m not ready for this workload, so just hoping to get out of it.

“I’m not ready for this workload”
^Admitting this is very mature of you. Seriously, learning to find the right balance in your life is a very important skill. When you speak with guidance, be sure to tell them that you don’t feel ready for this workload. There is no need to feel like you’re letting any one down.

Good luck to you. Please, don’t spend your weekend worrying about the class. Monday morning, you can talk with guidance and take care of the situation. If possible, perhaps you can have your Mom or Dad email the guidance office to let them know that you will be coming in to drop the class on Monday morning.

Yeh, thank you so much. I have some hw due mon., so I guess I’ll do it. I talked to my guidance counselor today, and she said she’ll notify me next week sometime. I’m hoping administrators let me drop it because of the stress.

I’m pretty sure they will be understanding–it’s not as if they are dealing with a 10th grader who is slacking off academically. If needed, get your parents involved.

Now, put the books away and enjoy the rest of your Friday night. Watch a movie.
Listen to some music. Talk with friends. Find something to do other than spending the rest of your weekend worrying. :)

haha yes, thanks, this is my 1st week of school, and I thank you so much. If I need more help, I’ll post here or message.

You are taking a very rigorous schedule as a sophomore, and that is to be admired.

My husband has taught AP stats, and it is a tough class. He had two sophomores one year, and they had just completed Algebra II. They did fine in the class and on the exam, but most of the others – all seniors – still did better.

There is plenty of time to take AP stats. If your school offers AP psychology and you take it, you will find that you will use some of the concepts in AP stats to do your work.

Good luck. Don’t stress. It will get better.

I’m not sure if I want to take stats senior year, I’m prob. doing AP Calc BC online, and our school got rid of AP Psychology 3 years ago. Thank you though, it’s hard doing well with high expectations.

I’ll try not to stress and hopefully be able to switch to something else.
