AP Spanish Discussion

Yo puse profesional para la pregunta con la empleada en el mostrador en el cuento “La bella durmiente” o lo que sea ;)

Anyway, BigWeight, how are you?! Haha, long time no see. The presentational speaking was pretty difficult, but if a NATIVE SPEAKER had trouble, I’m sure the curve for that particular section won’t be awful.
I definitely got a couple questions wrong in reading, but overall I was pretty confident about it. I actually understood the mu

I agree with what most of you guys have been saying… I thought the reading was pretty easy, the listening ok, the writing ok, and the speaking was IMPOSSIBLE. that audio for the presentational speaking was completely incomprehensible!

espero que mi clase de espa

As a Spaniard, I didn’t have much trouble with the AP Spanish - founded to be a simple 6th grade reading comprehension assignment.

However, the AP Spanish wasn’t designed for natives - it is supposedly designed to test the proficiency of non-native Spanish students. Really, I found the AP to be unrealistically difficult. Most notably, the spoken passages, which were sometimes radio excerpts, were spoken very fast, and considering that many times MC questions had to be answered or notes had to be taken while simultaneously listening to the audio, I really pity those non-natives who had the misfortune of taking it.

Supposedly getting a 5 gives you the ability to enter directly into a high-level language course in college. How I see it, if you’re able to get a 5 on this exam, you’re not really a student of Spanish, you already speak decently enough to need only to perfect it through practice rather than sit in a classroom.

As a native speaker who’s gotten 150 out of 150 in every one of the 4 mocks iver taken:

the reading was too specific… Like they expected you to look for the answer instead of understanding the reading… but it was easy

listening : sooo easy =)

writing: i had such a good time. I kep making jokes throughout my essay, i was bored lol

speaking: my stupid device did not work and as a result i had to stay after. But i felt like it was easy. Ran out of time in the presentational speaking =(

Listening- They were okay. I kept zoning off during the discussions. But I think the narratives were easier because the questions were on paper and i got to listen for the answers…

Reading- Harder than I thought. Most of the practice tests i took for the reading section I understood and did not include any weird “abnormal, spiritsl” stuff. So i left alot blank.

Writing- The informal part was fine. I only got to write on the first page though. I think I got 100 words in. The formal part was HARD! I think i basically just summarized the passages. And i didnt realize that passage in spanish is “pasaje” so on the test, i put “paisaje” meaning landscape. Oh and I put “Como esta ud. senor/senora? Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Viva Mexico!” at the end of the essay…lol

Speaking- I think I did pretty good on the informal. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. But I didnt realize that I was super loud that my voice was in other people’s tape! Yea i got made fun of for that.Haha. The formal section was BRUTAL! I didn’t understand what i was asked to do. So i just stammered alot and didnt realize that 2 minutes was such a short time. I just basically reread the articles.

All in all i dont think I did well. I think I’m going to get a 2, but im still hoping for a 3. But this was by far the most fun AP test I ever took. We just had so much fun laughing at each other for our horrible speaking responses and the stupid mistakes we made. One of my friends didn’t say anything during the informal speaking and one kept saying “yo no se”. and wrote her essay in english. And does college board allow us to order our tapes/cds of our speaking responses? I really want mine back so I can get a good laugh!

^ urgh… i basically was so tired after the test that i took a three hour nap. i wish i hadn’t taken the class.

i finished the formal essay early, and i thought the informal was a piece of cake. even the simulated conversation was pretty easy. i even thought the listening and some of the reading were easy too…then i saw the presentation and my heart sank. if i get a one i’ll be happy. urgh…

i dont know how non-natives could have taken that test and not cried, lol. Im a native and thought it wasnt out of this world hard, but not necessarily easy. But the oral presentation - that was a hot mess. I mean really, 2 mins to prepare that stuff? I do think non-natives deserve a pat on the back for making it through that though, some of the spoken passages where way faster than i expected.

I left 14 blank. I feel stupid for not guessing.

I can’t escuchar. The testing conditions sucked; there was an irksome echo accompanied by buzzing lights. Also, the cooling was pumping and they claimed that they couldn’t stop it because it was controlled from the district.

However, I think I did well on the reading (besides the first one), writing, and oral. My teacher said they look more for how long you talk about the two sources and not so much on detail. In the ~7 minutes or so I wrote an essay and just read it. It filled up the 2 minutes and I think I did a good job. On the audio portions of writing and oral I just pulled out key concepts and phrases.

I wonder if my goal of a 4 was diminished by leaving around 14 blank

If it wasn’t designed for natives then why are 80% of the students who take it native? They should just have different tests for natives and non natives

I’m a non-native, and I thought the test wasn’t very hard. The listenings were a little fast, but not impossible. The only story that was retarted and kind of confusing was the one about la mu

i had to take the ap span makeup on the 21st (swine flu day on may 5th)
this exam was THE DEATH OF ME
reading comp and narritives… LIKE WHAT HAPPENED THERE? i could not tell you
at one point there was tribal chanting from a lady and i was supposed to answer questions about it. the entire room was laughing
and there was .5 seconds of complete mumble on a narrative and i was supposed to answer a question about what the lady was saying…SO BAD

essays and speaking was ok for me though
