How difficult is the Spanish Language and Culture test? Do the study guides such as the Princeton Review really assist in getting a 5? I’m just wondering because I’m thinking about self-studying for it. Thanks!
Hi!
I took the test last year as a sophomore and got a 3:/ But I also didn’t study all that much for it either. In my classes at school, a lot of students got 4 or 5s and only one person failed it.
The AP test is split into 5 different sections, as you already know. But the thing with language is that it’s just a matter of constant practice. In my AP Spanish test, we just practiced and practiced the correo electronicos, escuchar, multiple choice, verbals, and conversacions. When I entered the test, it was no different from the material I already had exposure to.
So the answer is, if you familiarize yourself with past AP exams and continue practicing different parts offered on it, as well as recognizing the little tricks and stuff that the creators of the test try to pull on you, you’ll be fine. And surprisingly, I was terrible at speaking throughout the year, but I felt very confident with my performance on the actual test day. Really immerse yourself in the languages in all aspects, speaking, writing, listening, and reading especially. And because you’re self studying it, it’s important that you understand you should practice a little each day. Everyday, only for about 30 minutes or so. It’s a language not a math course, so you can’t really learn it overnight.
Good luck on the test! I wish for you the best!
