Any advice if we are going to self study it. SOme general tips will be nice.
Thanks
:)

^DO NOT self-study spanish lit.
It's insanely hard, even when I'm a native speaker who is at the top of my spanish class (I live in latin america)

Unless you can digest works of Calderon, such as "La vida es sue~o", and can read "Cien a~os de soledad" as leisure reading, you SHOULD not take Spanish lit, much less self-study.

Did you take it?

I suggest reading some of the older and longer works in translation so you have time to get through all the req. reading. It is essential that you are familiar with everything on the list. I took it as an independent study so I did most of it alone, but an excellent teacher reading my essays as I went made all the difference. Got a 4. Not a native speaker of Spanish.

So is the multiple choice based on the required works?

lmao, I'm self-studying this too.

Bumping this thread... I'm going to try to self-study Lit for May 09, hehe. Just finished Span 3, taking 1004 @ a U over the summer. Taking IB SL next yr, which i guess equates to AP Spanish Lang.

So, is the best plan to read the full english translated versions of the works, then go back and read the spanish (taking lots of notes), then do review books? Or how have you succeeded in self-studying Spanish Lit?

imaparasite...it doesn't sound like you're taking AP Span Lit. Are you gong to take AP Language or AP Literature?

--

I took AP Span Lit this year. My first year of spanish was 8th grade. I am in no way fluent in speaking, I can understand slow-average speaking, and I can comprehend written material if there is not too much high-end vocabulary.
A lot of the works we read for Span Lit had a ton of tough vocab. I got a 4 on the AP Spanish Language exam.

So that gives you an idea as to how well I know spanish...

Now for AP Lit. I read a lot of the shorter things in spanish, but the other student in my class and I found a great website which has side-by-side translations of EVERY SINGLE WORK ON THE REQUIRED READING. I ended up usually reading the english and some of the spanish once we found this.

In terms of what we did in the class, I didn't feel like I was well-prepared at all going into the exam. We did like 2 practice essays and 1 MC test the entire year. Everything else was just talking about the stuff we read.

That said, I am very confident I got a 5 on the exam, and I think one could self-study this and do well. With the help of the website I mentioned, of course.
To get to the website: simply type in the spanish name of the title of the work and then the word "kahoks" in google. It will be one of the first links. Hopefully the required reading list is the same next year.

As long as you can remember what the works are about, and you're pretty good at writing essays in spanish, you should be fine.

The MC section was based on passages/poems. Every other one was from the required reading list.

The first essay is an analysis of a poem NOT from the req. reading list. The other two are based on works from the req. reading list.

I'm taking the equivalent to AP Span Lang next year in school. However, I'd like to self-study in preparation for the AP Span Lit test at the end of next year.

WOW. That website is awesome. Thank you so much!!
