AP Spanish vs Spanish 4

HI guys I'm going to be an incoming Senior this year.
I just had a quick question for you guys. I know that 4 years of a foreign language is recommended (in my case, Spanish), but I face a dilemma. It's either taking AP spanish or Spanish 4. I really dont have confidence in Spanish and somehow managed an A through out my years taking Spanish. However even if i do take the AP class, I will not be taking the test anyhow. My senior schedule is:

0- ASB
1- AP Lit
2- AP Stat
3- AP Gov
4- Organic Bio
5- AP spanish/ Spanish 4
6- Waterpolo

Thanks for your input and time!

As long as you don’t care about earning possible AP credit, there’s no problem with not taking sr year AP test(s).

sorry if my question seemed confusing.
i was asking if i could take Spanish 4 rather than AP Spanish without it harming my college apps and my chances

Hi! I was in a similar situation as you are now this past year (level vs. AP). Now that I have taken the course (during junior year), in all confidence I would recommend taking AP Spanish Language. At least at my school, the course itself was much easier than the on level course. They had more busy work and all we really had were studying for simple vocab quizzes (once to twice a week, consisting to an average of about 30 words each quiz), AP style readings (or ‘lecturas’), dialogues (both listening and self-response) as well as essays (they are intimidating but don’t worry, they get easier) during class. We had one test a six weeks over the six vocab units we had over that grading period, but only over a select 50, and a random reading with about 10 or so questions following. OH! This course also focuses on grammar, but we only really concentrated in incorporating the subjective. Additionally, you aren’t required to take the AP exam at the end of the year, which I’m not going to lie, it is a challenge, but at my school the class was very preparing and we did activities everyday that is formated like the test. All around, it was a way easy course and I ended up maintaining a 98 average all year, compared to the 94-95 average I had in the past in the on level course.

It’s not going to make or break your application. If you’re not even going to take the test, you don’t really need the class. Many schools consider finishing Spanish 4 as taking 4 years of Spanish.

Take AP b/c of the GPA boost. There might be more writing tests and speaking, though. I’m taking AP Span Lang this year, but I like the language and feel somewhat confident in the language.

I guess it’s up to you…won’t you call the admissions office of your target about it? They’ll be glad to answer this question.

thanks for your input guys, but seeing that AP at my schools is a very rigorous class compared to the Spanish 4 class, i think im just going to take regular since it won’t make or break my chances. Thanks a lot guys!
