I am taking ap spanish next year. I am not currently in any spanish class (but i also take french), but my mom is a fluent speaker (I am not a native-speaker) and has taught me some. I have also learned some on my own. So I was just wondering what tenses and general grammar rules should i know for ap spanish. Also do you know any good practice workbooks/textbooks/review books. Thanks!

Barrons has a decent AP Spanish review book.
In terms of tenses and grammar rules–I am taking AP Spanish this year, and we are required to know all of the tenses necessary for everyday speaking–present, imperfect, preterite, conditional, future perfect, past perfect (and all of these tenses in the subjunctive mood as well).
The AP Spanish exam is looking for near-fluency on the test. You are fortunate to have a native speaker in your home! =)

I am in AP Spanish as well. It sounds as if you don’t know spanish very well - which would be a problem. Just knowing some spanish words will not help. The AP Spanish exam really does require near fluency.

Most native speakers in my class probably won’t do that great on the exam because they lack the proper grammar know-how.

Also, some people find taking two languages confusing. French and Spanish at the same time might not be a good idea.

To test yourself, watch a spanish soap opera. If you understand most of it, go ahead and take it. Otherwise, dile adios.

^ Yeah thats the thing, I perfectly understand spoken Spanish, so I understand like 90% of whats said in a soap opera. I speak it pretty well too and have talked to the AP spanish teacher. She gave me some of their homework and I could do it with no problem, so I think I’ll be fine for the class, but the exam is a different question.
