Ap Spanish?

I am currently a sophomore taking honors spanish 4 and have just been told by my teacher that he would like me to continue with Spanish next year and take Ap. I know for a fact that I will not be majoring in Spanish but probably engineering, mathematics, or economics. So my question is wether I should take Ap Spanish next year or take another math/science related course (I will not waste my time with a study hall). Spanish is my weakest subject and I am worried that I will do bad on the AP exam if I take it (I do not think that I will be able to get above a 2). I mentioned this to my teacher and he said that even if I do bad on the exam, universities will still look at this as a positive thing. Is that correct? I will defiantly be applying to some of the top 50 university's in the us and uk (not sure if that is relevant, but it might help). On a final note, is it required that you take a foreign language at university?

Bump bump bump

I am in AP spanish and I could tell you that it isn’t too difficult, just a bit of work. I also take two AP sciences and am doing fine, so it is up to you. I don’t want to tell you to take it or not, as it is ultimately your decision, i am telling you that it isn’t too bad if you do decide to take it.

BTW I will be a science major next year.

I would look very carefully into exactly how the grading is done, like how much is oral vs. tests vs written papers, etc.

All I can say is it looks like my son will be getting the first B of his entire life in AP Spanish this semester, after having sailed through the first 3 years with A+'s. The main issues for his class seem to be that a significant portion of the grade is based on extemporaneous speaking skills, and there are no regular chapter tests that he would normally do very well on. Also there are numerous native speakers in the class that he can’t match in oral ability, since he has not had any significant practice outside of school.

Most selective/highly selective colleges have a foreign language requirement, that can be met with a score of 4 or 5 on the AP exam.

Thank’s for your responses guys. Right now I am leaning towards not taking AP next year, I feel like I will enjoy another science class way more. Any other opinions?
