AP Spanish

I am going to be taking Spanish 3 and Hons Spanish 4 next year. Since my school has block schedule, Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 is relatively similiar to a Spanish 1-2 and Spanish 3-4 class. My friend goes to a regular-period school and when I took Spanish 2, he was learning everything I did at a Spanish 3-4 level. I was wondering if I should take the AP Spanish exam if I take Spanish 3 and Hons Spanish 4 then self study a bit. Or would that be a bad idea and just finish Spanish during college.

I don’t know if it’d hurt anything. I think being familar (REALLY familiar) with the structure of the test is really all you need. You don’t need that strong a grasp of the language to get a 5.

In my opinion, it is a bad idea. Unless Spanish is your native language, you will need to self-study a lot more than “a bit” in order to pass the exam, since you only have an elementary background of the language.

Spanish is one of the harder AP exams…a native speaker at my school got a 4. You would have to have very rigorous spanish classes and an extensive knowledge of the language to get a 5 by self-studying.

Don’t. I took Honors Spanish 5 this year. I was going to stop until my teacher pressured me into taking AP Spanish. Guess what my summer assignment is? Watch 8 hours of Spanish tv and write summaries and reactions :(

It’ll be a sucky self-study for you. Spanish 3 and 4 don’t cover advanced concepts.

yeah there’s no way haha
only because it’s a very rigorous test…there are a million parts and you really have to be able to think in Spanish just as you do in English lol
I’m not a native speaker…but we have a really good AP Spanish 4 which was new last year
I’m anxiously waiting for July 1st to hear how I did haha
I’m pretty positive I passed it…but I’m hoping for a 4
You’d have to be pretty stellar to make a 5 on your own…because it’s mostly native speakers that take it haha and they will obviously have an edge over you…meaning the “curve” wouldn’t be as good
I mean it’s doable, there is a way haha…but you’d have to really commit! :D

Okay thank you! Since my school is different I was thinking of many taking the AP course after Spanish 3 because my school goes: Spanish 1, 2, 3, 4 then AP. Because what I learn in Spanish 2 is the equivalent of a Spanish 3-4 class at a another school. A Spanish 3 is the equivalent of a 5-6 class, and so on. But I’m not sure, I probably can’t now because if there was a summer assignment it would be too late.

that’s really weird! hahaha
we have Spanish 1, 2, 3, and the AP Spanish 4 lol
Now we have like Honors Spanish 2 and 3 though haha
but yeah :)

Well at my school you can take AP Spanish after Spanish 3 but some people go to Spanish 4 first so that they’re better prepared for AP Spanish lol.
