AP Stat & Prob or Precalc Honors?

What looks better on the college transcript of someone looking to go into finance/accounting? In your guys’ experiences.

Note: Looking around, I’m seeing a lot in favor of Precalc, but I’m still interested to hear.

Are you going to be a senior? Definitely the pre calc, if you are trying for selective schools. Many selective schools really like to see calculus, so not having any type of calc would be a disadvantage.

Preclaculus hands down.

Definitely precalc if you are going to be a senior. Have you seen the business curriculum? You will be taking business calculus in many programs, especially the more well-known ones.

You need to take precalculus if you will be taking calculus in college. Your calculus class will preume that you have covered the typical components of a precalculus class. You do not want to have to teach yourself that stuff while trying to learn calculus.

Precalculus. Business programs typically require a semester of calculus so it is best to be prepared. Note that while stat is also required in most business schools, that is a course that you can take without any prerequisites.

I would take precalc! The class is a good intro to calc and taking AP Stat kind of looks like you are trying to avoid a calculus route.

Definitely take precalc. Since you’re thinking about a math-oriented major, taking both wouldn’t be out of the question, if you can make room in your schedule without sacrificing something else that’s more important.

Thanks everyone!! Very helpful, and I appreciate the information!

Looking it over I might even be able to take Stat as a self-study if I have the time. Guess we can see when the time rolls around :stuck_out_tongue:

So thanks again all!

If you decide to do this ^^, you might consider actually signing up for a legit self-paced college stats class. Then you can list it on your apps as a class you are in fact registered for, rather than just a “take my word for my good intentions to self-study” kind of thing. (If you have time this summer, you could get started on it before your other classes start in the fall.) Here’s one, for proof-of-concept:

Definitely precalculus, preferably honors. You can add stats or AP stats as an elective.

Instead of self-studying stat, I think your time would be better spent: 1) focusing on your college applications; 2) doing as well as you can in the classes you are taking in HS and 3) doing ECs you care about.

You’re probably right.
