any prerequisites recquired, best prep books, other advice?

Only prerequisite is that you need to have a graphing calculator and know how to use it really. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to self study.

which textbooks or review books do i need to order? I have a TI-89, but i dont know how to use it!

I heard that it's not really that easy to self study.

Practice of Statistics is good and easy to read. It also tells you how to use your graphing calculators, something that review books don't tell you. I heard Barron's is a good review book but like I said, doesn't explain how to use the calculator.

If you're serious about self studying it, get Practice of Statistics and Barron's prep book.

That's all you need.

Also, don't use an 89 for AP stat.

^ I second that. 89s are too complicated, but they tell you how to do everything for 83s and 89s in the Practice of Statistics text too.

The text is 99$ on amazon.. so i need to buy that + Barrons + a new calculator? and how much time do i need to study for this, i need a 5.?

Stats isn't that hard to self-study. It can easily be done in about 4 months. The first section is just about basic graph stuff, then it's just the normal distribution, regression, probability, and then distributions of random variables. On the section on inference, most inference procedures operate similarly, so if you can nail one, you can nail them all.

Some APs can be studied within a few hours of reading (I'm looking at you AP Psych and Human Geography.) The Stats AP is not one of them. Like Gator said, you need to give yourself a good amount of time before the AP to study it. But aside from the time commitment, the content is pretty easy.

Get CliffsAP for it.

Barron's AP is better.

Yeah get Barron's for your prep book.

I'd still get the text though and work through most of the problems just so you can feel comfortable with anything they can throw at you =]
