Hey guys, does anyone know if you can become an AP state scholar as a freshman? Also, does anyone know the stats for the last AP state scholars of Oregon? I am going for state scholar, in Oregon obviously, and was wondering if I could possible achieve this as being only a freshman? I will take (most likely) 5-6 AP tests March this year, and would like to know if the last AP state scholars of Oregon or other less-competitive states had over 6. I would be willing to take more if it was a reasonable goal. And please, don't tell me that I am crazy and need to "have fun and enjoy life while I can", I get enough of that from my under-achieving classmates. Besides, I think getting AP state scholar as a freshman would be a great credential when applying to HYPSCDP and all those other great schools, don't 'ya think? Thanks!

Last year's state scholars were a three-way with 9 APs, all three of them were from Westview HS in Portland.

Also, in my opinion, the state scholar award is cool, but it won't be significant because the numbers vary by state. Washington's state scholar had 17 APs, and others had 20 or 21. Plus, you shouldn't take APs just to up your count - take them because you are actually interested in learning the material. But go for it if you want, probably impossible as a freshman, but maybe by junior year.

yeah, personally I think you should go for national AP scholar. I'm doing so myself. I plan on taking
US History
World history
Euro history
Stats
Span Lang
US Gov
English lang
English litt

Best of luck to you!

Thanks guys! And RCfanatic, how did you find that? I looked for over an hour :P I would be interested in each AP I took, so it isn't only for the award. Besides, becoming a national scholar as a freshman would seem kind of prestigious, although I still don't think I can manage than many AP tests right now, I will start the rest during the summer before sophomore year. Am I starting too late? I was planning on beginning test prep on like the 15th of December.
