Okay, now I realize that every year many people are shocked at what they get on their AP exams. Sometimes a person may think they got 4, but they get a 3 or vise versa. Many times they think their score is incorrect, but it's not. HAVING SAID THIS:

I live in California and I am a student in AP statistics. I had a 98% in the class, A's on all my tests and I was like in the top 5% of all students who took the class (about 140 people). I felt extremely prepared for the AP exam because not only did I have a high A in the class, but I also did many many many many of the released free response questions. In addition, I also did the TWO of the released multiple choice AP exam for statistics, and I got a 31/40 on BOTH OF THEM which is a 5. I in no manner gave myself an advantage whatsoever. I started the time and put my pencil down as soon as the time ran out. Same case for the free response.

WHAT DID I GET ON MY EXAM?

Apparently it says I got a 3. This was extremely shocking to me. I honestly feel that there is a mistake. It is not just 1 point different, but 2 points! Cause I HONESTLY felt like I got a 5. My teacher even said that I would get a 5 most likely because we took preparation tests from previous years and I got 5's on all of them.

NOT SUSPICIOUS ENOUGH?

I have a twin brother who is also in AP statistics who also took the exam. He checked his scores, but it says that he provided the wrong information so they can not provide him with a score yet. This is even more suspicious because I now I feel as if it's possible that they switched our scores around, meaning that the score I got was my twin's score. This could make sense because my brother is not as good as me in the class and was noticeably less prepared. So if he got a 5 and I got a 3, that means they switched it up on accident.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? DO YOU THINK THERE WAS A MISTAKE? CAUSE I DO. MY FRIENDS THAT ALL HAD B´S IN THE CLASS ENDED UP WITH 4´S AND I GET A 3?!? IM TELLING YOU THERE IS NO WAY.

It IS possible to bomb a test, and by the looks of it, nothing said will change your mind.

Stuff happens, it is possible you got a 3 and just had a bad test day. Whatever, the outcome, dont stress it. However, about the possible mix up, since you had to put your name and ap label on the answer sheet, as well as the booklet number, there is little chance you could have gotten someone else’s score. If you are concerned however, contact the collegeboard, but keep in mind they may be unable to help at this point.

As much I want to think they messed up your score, I wouldn’t want you to get your hopes up. Don’t take it the wrong way because I can tell you were very prepared and deserved a 5, but the truth of the matter is, CollegeBoard takes way to many precautions for a mix-up to happen. I don’t think your twin had anything to do with it, unless you guys switched AP labels or maybe you logged into his account or something like that…

However, this being said, there have been accounts of CB forgetting to combine the FRQ with the MC, or maybe scanning the MC portion wrong. There is no way they messed up your FRQ grade, because it’s a pretty meticulous process with more than one reader assessing the FRQ portion. You can get your MC portion regraded for $25 (I would give you the link but I’m locked out of apscore as I am still waiting for the scores to open in my state) but not your FRQ.

If you’re really concerned you can get your MC regraded. Other than that, I doubt even if they did make a mistake, I doubt you’d get your grade changed.

It’s possible you were overconfident.

The very notion of getting 5s on all your previous practice tests really might not mean anything on the real test day, because there’s nervousness / excitement / emotion that come into play.

For example, im sure youve heard of people who’ve done well on SAT practice tests (like 2200+) but they end up bombing it due to some emotion, like overconfidence or nervousness.

You might have been the victim of that too.

In addition to asking for the MC rescore, which went up to $30 this year, you can pay $10 to have your FRQ mailed back to you. It will come without grading or comments, just the booklet with your answers, but it forces CB to look up and find your booklet and see that it is not lost or mixed up with someone else’s. It is possible to get a 3 with one of the sections missing completely.

Last year when my D refused to believe her ‘2’ in APUSH, we paid for both services. It turned out her MC questions had been lost or mangled. They never explained clearly what exactly had happened. They raised her score based on the FRQ part they had, to a 4. Which was not a perfect solution as she excels at the MC part, but better than the ‘2’ she was initially given. They refunded the charge for the MC rescore, but not the charge for sending the FRQ booklet.

There is no way to get them to go into their system and check that there are grades for both sections and that the grades are really for your test unless you pay for these services, unfortunately.

Hi, I just saw my AP statistic score and was also confused. Like you, I received a 3. Also like you, I found the class quite easy and was making high grades in the class. I did a couple practice tests and made high 4’s. After taking these I went to school on Saturdays to have even more practice with my teacher. On test day I was very confident as the test seemed very easy (particularly the short answer part). Now I’m not going to say I know I got a 5…but I am very VERY confident I did not score lower than a 4. Sooooo I went to the ap statistics score calculator. I set that multiple choice questions right at 0 (as I was hopeful that they did not add my MC score so I just wanted to see what my free response grade would give me on its own) if you did nearly perfect like I believe I did, then you could get a 4! Yes a 4! Without getting a single MC question right! Now let’s say I’m being a little overconfident which is a possibility…,if you just did fairly well on the free response you could easily get a 3 by this calculation website. It’s just kinda boils down to a pride thing for me…my college accepts a credit of 3 but I went around telling people I got at least a 4 and possibly a 5. So like you, I am wondering if perhaps there was a mistake. Most likely a failure to ADD BOTH THE FRQ AND MC TOGETHER.

I was pretty disappointed with my AP stats score too - I got a 4 although I had an A in the class, studied a lot and took several practice tests tests, all of which I got 5s on. I understand your feeling of disappointment but you just have to accept it and be grateful that you passed; there are thousands of students who failed but they just move on. In addition, excessive self-confidence can be detrimental to ones test taking ability as one is more likely to put in less effort, so that may be a contributing factor to your unanticipated score. How did you do on your other tests?
