AP Statistics or AP Music Theory

I'm going to be a sophmore next year and my schedule right now is
AP English Lang
AP US Gov/ VPS (voluntary public services)
Chemistry 1 PIB
AP Calculus AB (no BC)
French III PIB
IB Computer Studies 1

I need one more spot and I don't know what to take. Either AP Statistics or AP Music Theory.
I have little knowledge of music and forgot the music scale (but can study it before school starts if necissary) and AP statistics has a VERY low passing rate. However, the majority of people paiing the class are the sophmores because the sophmores taking it are of high intelligence (which I can't say I'm AMAZINGLY smart but I know I'm good at math). So I would really like your help in making my decision.

At D's school, AP Stats is considered one of the "easier" ones. The math geeks also argue that it's not really math. That's a tough schedule for sophomore year. Good luck!!!

My honest opinion? Neither. 3 APs and 1 IB seem plenty for a sophomore. Take something fun, like chorus or an art class.

If you do decide to load up your schedule, I'd recommend against taking Music Theory, since you are admittedly not really a musician. It may be Music Theory, but it's still an AP. That's like saying you don't know algebra and trig but you're going to take AP Calc. AP Music Theory is, according to insider reports, insane.

I'd say AP statistics. It looks as if you have little background in music theory so why would you opt to take the AP subject? Usually people who take the APs have interest or are good at that subject.

AP Music theory is isaneee...I've played an instrument for 7-8 years, and I have a 2 year class before AP music. It's sadly, not as easy as learning "the scale" before school-hellz no. that's like the first week, if even.

music is an intense class. Stat is a million times easier and more useful. Any research or buissness or psychology or just about anything job you could ever want you need it for. And I think stat is fun. I agree with whoever said it's not really a math class; it's more commenting on numbers.

^^ idk why but at our school ppl say the EXACT opposite!! AP music you just need to know the scale and he just gives worksheets about the scale (everyone fails the exam) and AP stats everyone does bad but does good on the exam. so i was already leadingtowards chem, but idk if i can put as much time in stats with my schedule.

Take AP Statistics. :)

well, it's like anything...you have a bad teacher who lets you get away with everything-low grades on standarized tests...good teacher who makes you really work-good grades on standardized tests. what's so confusing?

the confusing part is if i should take a class that is very slackerish and get an A or take a really hard class and possibly get a C.

If all you know for AP Music Theory are the scales, you'll fail the AP big time, which is a waste of both $82 and your time.

If you're doing this for college (as I assume so, as you haven't displayed a desire to study stats or music theory), a B in stats with a 5 on this AP is going to look infinitely better than an A+ is music theory with a 2 on the AP.

wow r u planning to graduate early or IB? your school must hav a whole bunch of AP's.

Anyways, I think u should go w/ Stats b/c ur obviously a math person and it would help u w/ any further Compsci class

Okay. I was planning on taking stats except I'm really afraid of the class. ^^^ I'm planning IB (ya we have lots of APs lol).

Also, I'm going to ask my precalc teacher what she thinks of me taking AP stats. (Got an A in precalc but I want an opinion from a teacher who knows about the subject more then I do)

It depends on your teacher for Stats. Some assign alot of work and make the class more AP-like. Others hardly assign any work and won't give a damn what you do.

I can say though, that it is probably the most dry/boring math class you will ever take.

ya i think im going to do statistics. My teacher signed me off so I believe I'll do fine. Thanks for all the posts!!
