AP STATISTICS question?? How much math required?

How much high school math do you need for statistics?? Do you need anymore than the very beginnings of pre calc? Do you need calc at all? Does it help? Thanks

Basically my question is, how much math knowledge do you need to have to score a 5 on the exam?

um, statistics barely even requires any math.

just basic stuff like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root, and stuff like that.

Ya you can be in Algebra I and do well in Stats AP.
However at my school, you must complete Algebra II before you can take Stats AP

It helps to have some Algebra II background (logs, summation notation, elementary probability, etc).

But the majority of the topics require very little math, as others on this thread have stated.

it all basically comes down to how well you can use your calculator.

^
ya pretty much.

statistics has damn near no math involved. On the great tree of math, statistics is the branch that broke off because a fat kid sat on it and got turned into toothpicks. Hence why it's also known as Toothpick Stat.

yeah, lots of writing; brush up on that instead of worrying about math. it's lots of formulas.

Yeah, if you know how to communicate ideas at all you should get a 5. Stats FTMFL

The worst is that our teacher gives us so much work for the garbage...probably because there are kids in our school who are THAT dumb LOL!

Then again, my teacher...she is a wooman!

So I guess it can't be helped...

D and her math/science geek friends say that AP Stat isn't worthy enough to be called math! (But they all took it and got '5's anyway)...

thanks... im going to be taking precalc next year anyway, so ill should be more than fine
