hi i'm a junior and i'm planning to self study for ap stat. Is the elementary statistics 7e book by bluman sufficient to self study for the ap exam?

Hey there,

I took the AP Statistics exam last year as a sophomore, and I found that the Barrons review book helps immensely with content. I had a really good teacher, but the Barrons condensed everything nicely.

My recommendation would be to read in-depth Barrons while using your textbook for further explanation.

Previously, I thought that the Barrons practice exams were much much harder than the actual AP, but on test day, I found that they were roughly approximate. The MC came at a complete surprise for me; I was expecting something much easier. But I still got a 5; it’s important that you do well if not near-perfect on the essays.

It’s not efficient. That book is only aimed for teaching only high school students. So, it might be lacking some material compared to a college level/ap textbook.

You should purchase . The Practice of Statistics by Daniel S. Yates , David S.Moore, and Daren S. Starnes. This is the book my AP Stat class is using and it is an easy read. Meaning you do not need a teacher to understand the concepts presented in the book.
Oh and we use 2nd ed.

And Barrons is also a good supplement to the textbook.

Also If there are any Stat concepts, or any other concepts, you find difficult to understand go to this website.

Hope this helps
xD

thanks guys. i really appreciate it.

Hey, thanks for posting this thread lexluthor, saved me the trouble of posting one on stats myself. Anyways, how long should you study stat per day? week? etc. in order to be prepared for the test? and also, do they cover on general stuff, or do they ask hard (trick) questions

depends on you for studying stat per day. Besides, you’re responsible in planning your studying.

check the course description at apcentral.collegeboard.com. It has sample MC questions. Moreover, ap central has past FR questions.

Well If you are going to purchase a Stat textbook I would recommended you read a 1-2 Ch a week depending on the time you have . Maybe read 2 Ch during a holiday week.

And when I say 1-2 Ch I mean at the least.

thanks everyone! :)

Glad I can be of assistance.

Do you think I can start now and self study to get a 5?!

^I think so if you have only one to three AP exams to study. The concepts for stats are pretty straightforward.

I find that the content is not hard, it’s tricky. i.e. desigining an experiement, sample surveys, CLT.

You can self-study with iPhone apps in your free time and it really adds up.
I used a really good one for statistics from: [Mobile learning | iPhone, iPad, Android | Education apps | Publishing & Development](http://www.getyalearnon.com/)
I got college credit from taking the AP without taking the course.

Is Barron’s AP Stat book good enough without a solid textbook to get the 5 in by studying about 4 hours/week for maybe like 30 weeks
