AP Statistics Self-Study!

I HAVE searched the forums for old topics regarding the same topics but I can’t seem to find the answers for the specific questions I have.

Is statistics self-studiable for a current sophomore? I have completed Alg. II and am now taking a course that is “preparing me for calculus.”

What are the better prep books for this subject?? I read alot that Barrons was the best?

Is a prep book alone sufficient for learning all the material or is a textbook necessary? If a text is needed, which one is the best?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It is very self studiable. The only problem I see is that some of the concepts are more easy to understand if you have a grasp of calculus but that shouldn't be a problem if you are a quick math student. Stat is a fairly easy course. I estimate it would only take about 3 solid hours a week and a few hardcore review sessions before the test.

Okay, any other opinions?

You may want to try the Aleks software:

www.aleks.com

they have a diagnostic test and will provide certain tailored instruction based upon the test. It is something like $18/month so you may want to do the diagnostic in early February and run everything through early May when the AP test is administered. That would run you about $55.

Alternatively, you can get the AP Exam Review class from Apex learning but this is really just a review.

Hmm, I would probably prefer to study on my own with books. Thanks for the help though.

any good books (from those of you that actually took the course?)

the textbook taht we used, and the one our teacher heard was the most popular, was the practice of statistics by mccabe, yates, and moore. this is the version we used: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0716733706/102-9692752-0474503?v=glance

i've seen an updated version, but i don't have any experience with that. and for ap review book, barron's is the best. most comprehensive and well-written.

i'm taking the course now (not self-study as you plan on doing so) but my school uses the exact same textbook that kirbywamu' school does (the one he provided the link for) and i have to say, the book is extremely well organized. it seems to have a nice structural organization, with summaries of the most important points of each section after that section and the most important points of the entire chapter at the end of the chapter. this book was apparently made for those who were taking ap statistics (maybe, maybe not) because in the preface, they talk about this text resembling the ap stats syllabus as described by collegeboard....anyways, yeah...thats' my input.

Wow, thanks, that looks like the perfect textbook!!
