AP Statistics - should I take it or not?

Many of my friends are pushing me to take it next year, what do you guys think? What's the level of difficulty of it, how easy is the AP test (if anyone knows from last year), etc.

I'm taking it this year, and I personally think that statistics is boring. It requires more writing that math, and the writing part is really tedious. Besides that, I think the concepts are pretty easy, and there's not much to memorize. There might be a few rules and conditions for inferences that some might find difficult to remember.

Persoanlly, I can't really say anything. I haven't taken the AP yet.

Yes. It will permanently change your view of the world.
And in my experience it's been really good for scientific research.

statistics is a sad joke, indeed. If you know any math at all you should be able to get a high 5 (down low...too slow! jk that was a borat joke) on the test. You can use your calculator for the entire test, and you only need 68 points out of 100 to get that 5...if you've taken precalc or (in my case) taken calc, there is no excuse for getting less than a 95/100 on the test.

I am TERRIBLE when it comes to math, and I had an A, until senioritis hit.

It's a good class to take. Most colleges require it for most majors so you can either take it now or in college. You could probably self-study but you should get a review book or take a practice test and see how you do.

I'm not sure if the choice for you is between Calculus and AP Stats, but there are several posts on these boards from admissions officers who say that AP Stats is not considered as rigorous as even AB Calc. So if the rigor of your schedule is an issue, then it might be better to take calc.

If you plan to major in something that involves research design or statistics, though, it can be a really valuable course.

AP Statistics isn't really like any of the math you've had before. So like I've been self-studying it this year, and even though I'm kind of good at math (pre-calc as a sophomore), I've had a little trouble understanding some of the inference stuff. That might be because I've tried to teach myself each chapter in about an hour.

Taking the class now and recommend against it unless you know you'll have a good teacher. I spent this year with the department head with a small class. Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything, either because we spent too much time talking about what our weekends were like (not kidding and the discussion was usually teacher initiated) or because I was busy with 4 other APs. Now I'm slowly realizing I know next to nothing about statistics and the AP is in less than 2 weeks. Wish me luck!
