***AP Statistics Thread 2015-2016***

For some reason, I’m finding AP Stats a lot harder than AP Calc BC. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my teacher doesn’t teach #-o

@emilyskates That’s intense  What are you “learning” now?

@zenith99 Regressions. Sort of. Our classes basically consist of us going over the homework, which is us basically copying down random phrases from the textbook, and then we go into groups and work on a worksheet for the rest of class. I’m still kinda amazed that we haven’t taken any notes in class yet. During our last class, every single group got a completely different R value, despite the fact that we were all using the same data, so that’s going really well.

@emilyskates Wow. My stat class is pretty chill but I still feel like we get stuff done each day…even though we do tend to go at a pretty slow pace. We normally go over a powerpoint thing in the beginning/take notes (although it’s very easy to treat it as a study hall) for the period and then for homework we have to take notes again on the same topic (I guess reinforcement) and do sample problems. Although I have to say, although earlier in the thread I recommended getting the new Practice of Statistics textbook…it’s quite awful (the old one I hear is way better).

My ap stat class feels like a joke. Like half the crap we do isn’t even ap level. I am pretty worried. Have any advice so when may rolls around, i do not show up and not know anything bc so far that is what is going to occur. And just to let you know my teacher doesn’t teach, my school also messed up the curriculum so were not even learning stuff in the correct order…its a mess!

AP Stats is way harder for me than AP Calculus BC…I made 14 points higher in calc on my report card than stats. I hate stats. It’s awful. What are you all on? We just finished probability.

We have a test on scatterplots/regressions tomorrow…lol I suck at all the assessments…so hard…

@XoXdreamerXoX We just started probability.

@HaableVaurimn don’t worry a lot of teachers skip around the topics in order for it to make more sense for the students; even though you might start probability and others may have finished it, you may have completed a whole topic that is still way down the road for us

but guys my ap stat teacher told me that if she took the ap exam she would hope for a 3 and not only will most of us fail it but that most schools in the nation have a seminar for their ap stat class.

yay(: she expects us to fail- gives her all the more reason to try harder when teaching us. but seriously this is starting to become hard, like i do not understand my reasoning for signing up for this hard.

@elephantayee Thanks, I wasn’t too worried because my teacher is great. Sorry about yours …if it makes you feel better my AP Bio teacher sucks.

Is the mc questions in the barron’s book more difficult than the actual exam?

Why do people say statistics is easy? For me, it’s the hardest class I’ve ever done (that might not mean much, I haven’t done harder APs), but that might have to do with my crazy teacher. It seems like a class where a teacher has a lot more power to be lenient or harsh, considering there’s a lot of subjectivity in grading.

@ambitionsquared Actually the way your class is run/how you feel about it seems to be the general consensus on this particular thread (so you’re not alone). I liked my class at first (as maybe my earlier posts suggests) but now it’s just painful…the assessments are impossible, in my case.

I agree with you both @ambitionsquared & @zenith99. It is the hardest class I currently take, and I have a nut job as a teacher who grades nicely only because he knows he sucks at teaching. We barely do anything, no wonder why he thinks we all will fail the national exam he actually told us. Also I liked my class at first, now all thats occurring is me going downhill. The assessments I believe are made up in some random persons head.

I feel like my teacher hates me lol. My average mc grade is 93, but my average fr grade is 72. For most people, the free response is used as a buffer for the hard mc. For my last assignment, I wrote my name in the bottom of the paper, but he preferred it be put at the top, so I got 0%, which dragged my grade down to an 83. My teacher has a reputation for resenting Indians (He’s Indian, lol), girls and try-hards. The valedictorian has already dropped the class. Also, on tests, he includes previous chapters, and also future chapters! My Chapter 9 test last week had content from the first 8 chapters plus some problems from Ch. 13/14. When students complained about bad grades, he just said, “Good thing that’s not my problem.”

@ambitionsquared i feel like his phrase should be more geared to “sucks to suck”

My class doesn’t do anything, but the homework is relatively easy, so we’ve all been coasting along. Our teacher has been giving us partner quizzes, and we just took our first midterm, and despite feeling confident on the material, I got a C-. So now, my grade dropped from an A to a B, I’m extremely embarrassed over my midterm grade, my GPA is in danger, and I feel like I might not even pass the exam. Definitely need to self-study over winter break in order to boost my grade with the final.

Honestly, just look over your notes and buy the College Board book. I spent one evening doing this, and got a 4

How far is everyone? Right now, my class is about to take a binomial/geometric test (we already covered probablility)

College board releases all previous free response questions. Some multiple choice exams are available. Best practice questions are from Barron’s. Best video lessons are from jlinchstats website.
