Hey guys.
I've never taken any AP classes before and next year I'm taking two. I think I'll be fine with AP Psychology, but I'm worried about AP Stats. What is it like? Is it manageable? What do you do in the class? I'm good in math, but I'm just looking for more info on the class.

Hmm. I just got done with the class, and if you’re good at math, you’ll do well in AP Stat. It’s definitely a non-conventional math class, but its differences don’t make it much harder. Just be prepared for a ton of writing.

I just finished. I’m very good at algebra and trig, but I had a really hard time with stats. I tend to think that if you’re good at geometry, you’ll be good at stats. If you’re not, you much have a problem. But either way if you read the book and do practice problems almost anyone can pull off an A.

Just to clear up: statistics has nothing to do with geometry. It’s more data analysis, so naturally it’s a little different than any mathematics class you’ve taken before.

At my school AP Stats is challenging. It’s more writing than math most of times, according to my brother. It isn’t easy and it isn’t super hard. Prepare to work hard.

I just found out from my counselor today that I can’t take it unless I drop my lunch, which I really don’t want to do.
Could I possibly self-study AP Stats? - (Keeping in mind I know the AP Stats teacher?) I had her this year for math and she really wants me to take the class.

Hearing a class is easy does not necessarily MEAN it is easy, especially if it is AP. Everyone has their own opinions and experiences. Ap Stats was a struggle for many in my class, mostly due to my teacher. Luckily, there were other teachers available for assistance. Stats can be very confusing at times/ in certain situations such as mine when your teacher simply cannot teach correctly but if you are willing to put in a good amount of work and study, you should be fine.

I think the teacher makes a big difference with this particular course. Stats isn’t really regular math, so a lot of algebra/geometry-type teachers aren’t stats experts. An inexperienced teacher can make the course much harder than it needs to be.

Having to drop lunch for a core class? Either your school is doing something wrong or you are… lol
Assuming you have the 7 period schedule you should have
English. Math. Science . History , elective , elective, elective

I’m finishing my stats class this year and it’s harder than alg2/trig, but easier than calculus. People who say the class is more writing than math don’t understand that writing \emphatic{is} math.

Don’t drop your lunch. Maybe you could drop your Journalism for AP Stats…or self study it. I’m debating to self study because I have Calc BC and really don’t want to take AP Stats on top of that.

If dropping lunch still allows enough social time with friends and for you to actually eat (maybe in class, however), then do it. If dropping lunch means fasting every single day, then don’t drop it.
