I’m taking AP Calc AB this year as a sophomore and next year I’ll be taking AP Calc BC. I was planning on taking AP Stats senior year but I had a scheduling conflict this year which messed up my 4 year plan. I’ve heard that colleges don’t really see AP Stats as a challenging class/don’t give credits for it, so would it look bad if I didn’t take AP Stats/a math class senior year?
I could probably take an advanced math class at a community college so that I would still be taking a math class. Would that be preferable to taking AP Stats?
Yes it would! AP Stats is always an option, but continuing to progress in math classes instead of “going off-track” would be preferred.
Taking an AP class will never look bad on application unless you receive an unsatisfactory grade. Also, some colleges do grant credit for AP Statistics it all depends on which campus you decide on attending and what score you receive.
AP Stats is not a bad option for senior year if you’ve already completed all the other math classes at your school. However, Dual Enrollment may not be a bad option either.
Our state offers a Regent’s Scholarship of $6000 for in-state schools if you take certain high school courses. They actually require my D to take AP Stats AFTER Calc, so she had the same classes you did (soph AB, junior BC, senior AP Stats). I am sure you will be fine. I hope, anyway, considering D had to do it for her scholarship!
